Down version compatibility of MC17 license?
« on: March 15, 2012, 02:57:25 am »

I have MC17 license key. But I want to install MC15 due to several issues.
I am noticed that MC17 license works both with MC17 and MC16.
Can I register license key of MC17 to MC15?

Thanks!

No.  But why not report the problem you have.

Bad news.  :(

There is no problem to be reported.
MC15 works very nicely for DLNA media server. It's the best software I'v ever used.
I had reported some perfomance issue of MC16 in library browsing.
Because I run media server with 1.3GHz AMD CPU based HP Microserver which does not provide such computing power to run MC16 media server enough to fast library browsing in DLNA client such as PlugPlayer.
MC15's library browsing speed is very fast on that slow machine.

The one has MC17 license is not me but my friend. He has the same machine I have.
I got MC15. He doesn't. He purchased MC17 recently.
It's bad news for him.

So, how and where can he buy MC15?
Or any way to use MC15?

Thanks!

Something may be set wrong.  MC17 is definitely faster than MC15.  During initial import, either may be slow but they will speed up after some time.

There are some other remotes available here:

Gizmo and WebGizmo are also possibilities.

Can you describe what you're trying to do?

Some of my audio club member have LINN DS. So do I.
We dont use remote application. We use uPnP player liks PlugPlayer or Kinsky desktop as uPnP controller.
Not for a player, only for controller.
Media server is running using jriver MC.

When DLNA server is MC15, we can browse and explore media library in a very fast manner.
But when DLNA server is MC16 or MC17, library browing speed in PlugPlayer or in Kinsky desktop slow down, for example, if there are 300 albums in a folder, we have to wait tens of second until list of albums are completely shown up with album art on that controller App window. At this time the CPU utilization of the media server is over 50%.

As a result, we want to use MC15 as a DLNA server instead of nice featured MC17.
We need just DLNA server feature only. MC is perfect for DLNA server.
We have tested MC17's DLNA server feature several times, but we dont have satisfied result.

Can you tell us what "Something may be set wrong" can be?
Which setting items may cause browsing speed down?
In our experience there is no significant setting item affecting browsing speed.
Maybe album art? MC15 has no problem with album art.

For this reason, we should use MC15 as a DLNA server for a while.
But jriver does not sell MC15.
So, the thing we hope to jriver team is when we perchase MC17 or brand new version of MC in the future, jriver would give us the MC15 license registration key if possible.

I hope our situation make sense to jriver team.

Thank you!

One of you obviously have a MC 15 license, right? Why not purchase the version 17 (like you probably have) and just share the older 15 key. Only problem will be that you have to forward the mail with the key file. I do not think that JRiver would mind that. I can't say for sure though...

Sharing any license would not be permitted.

Ok. Never mind then. Forget what I said :) Best solution would be to find the problem behind this. It's probably something wrong with the setup, some equipment, software or perhaps MC. I would not expect functions in MC getting any slower as new versions are coming out, except for some odd bug or technical glitch perhaps.

MC17's DLNA setting.
We use folder structure browsing.

Skip Child Count may be selected if the device seems to take too long to browse media in the Organization Tree. Deselect if this causes problems with browsing.

I'v found this in Wiki.
After selecting Skip Child Count browsing speed became great.
"Location + Album" both are required for fast browsing in addition to "Skip Child Count" on.
Happy day!
I sould have read the Wiki before upgrading MC.
But there is no broblem in MC15 for browsing large media library without checking on Skip Child Count.
