96kHz freezing on RME hardware since 147
« on: May 28, 2012, 02:02:37 am »

HI

I use output mode to resample to 96kHz for convolution, on an RME fireface 800 using ASIO.

Since about ver 147 MC has started to freeze when playing music using these settings.

I have now tried up to version 160 and the problem remains.

I can get MC to work by disabling ouput resampling to 96kHz.

Could you please revert whatever changes were made :)

I recently had major issues playing files via ASIO on my RME hardware (multiface II). This was a case of trying to play a pure 24/96 file directly after a 16/44 file "on the fly" so to speak. No resampling or anything else going on. There were a number of changes put through a few versions back and now it plays these files perfectly in sequence.

Not sure if this plays into your issue....or not.

I even used resampling to change a 96kHz file to 48kHz, and MC crashed about 20 seconds into playback.

So it's probably not hardware related

Has something changed with 96kHz files?

Please use Help > Logging.

Then send the crash log to logs at jriver dot com.

Thanks.

Thanks for the log.

Then a 96kHz was played successfully, whilst being resampled to 48kHz.

Then the vst of plogue bidule was enabled in DSP studio.

Then trying to play the same file, MC froze.

This seems to point to a problem with plogue bidule.  Is that correct?  Does it ever misbehave with that VST disabled?

HI

I have been using plogue bidule for over a year without a prior problem.

I have also seen crashes when not using plogue bidule.

I have another log that I can send from a crash relating to a sampling rate change of the RME hardware. But only going from 44.1 to 48kHz.

Apart from updating MC, the only other change I can think of is that I added a second zone in MC, to make it easier to test different convolution filters. Have you seen problems with multiple zones?
Could there be a problem with multiple instances of vst plugins with multiple zones?

Yes, possibly.  A VST plugin is a black box to us, and as such could crash or do other bad things.

Why don't you uninstall all VST plugins and run for a few days.  Then let us know what you find and we can go from there.

Hi

After trying many things, I found that removing Plogue fixes the problem mostly, but still had MC crash occasionally with 96kHz files
I reverted to a restore point from early May, and the problem was fixed.
Windows then installed critical updates again (many to do with .NET 3.5.1 and 4) and the problem occurred again.
I then unistalled the updates, but that didn't fix the problem!

Windows now has many errors and I have to revert to an old image.

Have you seen any other problem caused by windows updates in May?

No, we haven't.

I can't see how Windows Updates would make a difference in 96 kHz audio playback.  Maybe there's just a hardware level thing failing?
