Portable Media Player? (iPod alternative)
« on: June 28, 2012, 10:35:58 am »

Can anyone recommend a decent iPod alternative please?
Something that syncs & works reliably with JRiver (keeps ratings, syncs playlists, keeps album art etc) large capacity is a must & video capability would be a plus but not essential

My iPod doesnt keep ratings from JRiver, and i obviously don't use iTunes anymore other than to transfer music to the iPod, so my old scratched & battered iPod is becoming needless really

I could use my phone (Galaxy S3) but it just doesn't work well with JRiver (yet) for some reason, and would prefer a standalone portable player as phone batteries are generally quite rubbish & i dont trust them for radiation etc to use it all the time, yes paranoia!

Thanks in advance for any suggestions

Hi Chronic, wish I could help you.

Looking for the same thing. Only thing I know of is the Cowon X7 which also has a large harddisk. Sound quality is beyond all the other portables. Only syncing with MediaCenter and the controls are not what you want.

Got myself an iPod with a 240GB disk. That's a big comfort for me  ;D

Archos also offers some players with HDD. I have an Archos 5 (w/o Android), with 320GB capacity, they regularly had 250GB. Mabe you want to get a used one: http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_trksid=p5197.m570.l1313&_nkw=archos+5&_sacat=0

Smaller ones offer up to 160GB  :)

I like Archos, no disappointment so far.

What was your problem, MarSies?

I really can't elaborate on that. I will overload the forum  ;D Their support sucks. The devices don't work like they should.

If you google on 'Archos 5 Internet Tablet' you will find a lot of things. You can also omit the device type.

My experinece is the worst ever. And they don't upgrade the device anymore. Within a year it's a worthless piece of hardware.

BIG SHAME ON ARCHOS !!
