I think if I had that beautiful Jaguar in my garage I would not be playing with integrating computers into my audio system, God what a beautiful car!
Hope this is an appropriate post being my first, I have been reading and researching the subject of digital audio playback. I have a quality hifi and I listen to my record collection more than my Cd's. I suspect some of that has to do with sound quality and some with what I am comfortable doing. My CD collection has grown over the years and is now difficult to manage, hence my desire to load them on to a hard drive that is easy to search and keep organized. However, I find mp3 sound quality to be grating for more than background music while doing other things, even the typical mp4 apple down loads leave a lot to be desired, at least played back via my ipod. So, I have an older Mac Mini (Intel Core Duo 2 GHZ; 2GB RAM) and want to set it up as a server, I have been reading the posts throughout this site and I am wondering if there is a document, book, or reference somewhere that any of members may be aware of that an uninitiated, person new to computerized audio could get to help plan out the requirements and steps in putting this system together. I am interested in more than just hardware but suggestions on DAC's and and integration would be helpful as well as file formats and storage issues and backup. I am new to this and want to learn what I'm doing before making too many mistakes.
I understand that J River Media Center for Mac is coming but not here yet, should I use iTunes to get things into the computer or wait, suggestions along those lines certainly welcome.
Thank you,
Ralph
