Can JRiver 18 support: Broadcom's BCM70012 and BCM70015 [these are mini pci-e cards that can decode DVD and BR]? Here are the drivers: http://www.broadcom.com/support/crystal_hd/
(XBMC and Media Player Classic supports it...)
(it helps with BR playback on machines, so no expensive (and loud) card is needed).

If you install the DirectShow decoders for them, MC should be able to use them. They may require unlocking in the custom RO setup to be selectable, though.

Considering that every GPU comes with its own decoder these days (even the cheap and quiet GPUs), i have to question their usefullness though.

If you are building Silent PC (0db) - no fans whatsoever [all cooled passive] then there is not much option for GPU neither for any decent Graphic Card.
Passive Power Supply means max 120W.
Those Crystal HD chips may come in handy [there are <10W]. Plus they are cheap.

As to the drivers: "These drivers do not support Blu-ray DiscŪ playback. For Blu-ray Disc playback driver support, please contact your respective OEM vendor."

I have a passive PSU with 400W, you are looking at the wrong things.

Anyhow, you need some kind of GPU, and even the integrated GPUs in Intels latest CPUs can decode all important formats out there.

If you have PSU 400W then there is no passive case you can put it in . Passive cases are very small... [we are building small silent 0db pcs on Mini-ITX boards...]

I think you need some power to run Blue-rays (or 1080p) without stuttering...

Netbooks have terrible thermals properties. :p

Anyway, the point stands that even integrated GPUs can run decoding just fine these days, at least if you get something better then a Atom CPU, and there are plenty fanless designs with actual Intel Core CPUs.

In any case, if you can install the DirectShow decoder for the Broadcom cards, MC can use them. MC uses DirectShow for all video playback, so thats a strict requirement for using them.
