Question on transfering problem to player.....
« on: April 17, 2002, 07:01:34 am »

When I transfer music to my player (NEXII with a 512MB CF card) I get spikes when listening to the music on my player.  On the computer these mps's sound fine.  It is only when I send them to the player via USB port I get the pops dropouts and things of this nature.  I have tried EVERYTHING to fix this problem and I'm at a stand still.  Any help with this matter would be greatly appreciated.  My computer is a 20 gig 550 pentium with 128mb of memory.

Best guess is that this is a driver issue and that data is getting dropped in the transfer.

You might test this theory if you can borrow another player that uses a different driver.

Other possibilities are other programs running that use USB (like a Palm Hotsync) or an interrupt conflict.

Bill,

Are you doing any file conversion with these files? If so, try transferring without converting?

What version of MJ are you running and what Operating System?

Can you try dragging the files directly to your NEXII in Windows Explorer and see if the files are corrupted in the same way?

In MJ/Help do System Info and then copy and paste the results here.

Bill,

I also own a NexII and I noticed "rare" dropouts on some files using the USB interface.
But those occured only when converting during transfer (from mpc to mp3).
When converted separately the files transfered Ok from within MJ or with WinExplorer.
(Athlon 700, Win XP)
Since you're under W98 this could be a driver problem .
Also what is your version of the NexII firmware ?  The current one is V1.4 (c or m)

Alright Bill seems like your firmware is up to date.

One thing you could do, if possible, is to try uploading files to your NexII
using another computer possibly under Win 2K/XP.
I will also try and do some test with a friend computer tonight
(Pentium 500/ 192M ram/W98 quite close to your configuration)
to check if I can reproduce what you describe.

Stay tuned

Bill,

If the files are getting corrupted when you transfer them using Explorer then the problem is not related to MJ and it is either a hardware or driver issue with the NexII. I don't say that to avoid giving you some help, but to focus on where to try to get the problem fixed. In regards to additional suggestions, we don't have a NexII to test at this time, but hopefully other users such as Chris can get you going.

Good luck.

Bill,

I did some testing under W98SE but, man, we had a lot of trouble with the USB
port ! We crashed the computer twice !
Anyway I managed to transfer some files to my Nex II using both windows explorer
and MJ8. Although the transfer was a bit funky (going straigth to 100% progress and then
waiting for a long while !) the few (10) mp3 files I transfered were Ok.
So, what can you do now ?
1/ Try and install the last USB driver for NEX II
2/ Also try and transfer using Nex Manager (only works under W98 or ME)
Both are available from http://www.frontierlabs.com/Downloads.html
3/ maybe you can try transfering from a computer with Win2K/Xp
4/ Is it the same with another CF card (64/128M) ? maybe you can init (format) you CF
(just thinking)
5/ I'll try and do some more testing

good luck Bill and let us know

Chris

Bill,
my mistake : skip item 2/, the Nex Manager utility only works with NEX 1 model.

Bill,

1/ Unzip the zip file in some tmp directory,
2/ Locate the IAUsb.sys file on your system (normally in WINDOWS/System or/System32)
3/ Check the version of both files (right click on the file/Version tab)
4/ If the one you downloaded is newer simply replace it.
The version on the web is 1.0.0009.0 Date : 07/18/2000.
My guess is that your driver should be up to date if you bought your NexII recently.

Any progress so far ?
Did you try with an other computer ?
