MC shuts down when I try to watch a tv channel
« on: November 26, 2012, 04:00:18 pm »

I’ve using WMC and I’m trying to change over to MC.  The tuners work fine on WMC but when I try to watch a channel with MC the software closes down on me.
I’m using window & home with two win TV hvr 2250 tuners.  Any thoughts on this??
 Thanks John

Make sure WMC is not still using the tuners (such as background programming guide download).  If the problem persists after making sure WMC is not running any background program, email me a log.  I am yaobing at jriver dot com

You need to turn the WMC services off.  On your desktop, right click on "Computer" and select "Manage".  Select Services from the left pane of the window then scroll down the list until you find two Windows Media Center services.  Right click on each and select properties.  For Startup Type select Disabled.

I disabled WMC under services but have the same issue.  What log are we talking about?  Where do I pull the log?

Thanks for the help.

In Standard View go to Help > Logging and check "Output to a log file.  Click Done.  It is best to restart MC to reset the log to reduce its size.  Now go through the actions which cause the problem.  Now go to Help > Logging and click "Report Problem".  This will send a zip file to your desktop.  You can then attach this to your post.

Which version of MC are you using?

Thanks for posting the files.  Unfortunately, the log file does not contain any info related to TV playback.  We need "Previous Log.txt" since MC crashed (or restarted).  Please read the instructions in the thread titled "How to send MC logs related to TV to developers" for more info.

This file?

Yes, that's the file.

It shows that the program crashed immediately after it successfully built and started TV tuner graph and then built and ran time-shifting player graph.  No other clue except that you were using FFDShow Raw Video Filter for post-processing.  Please remove that filter from being used.  Here is how:

Under Drives & Devices, click Television.  Then click "TV Options..." > Settings...  On the resulting Options window, select the first digital Hauppauge tuner from the list under "Devices".  Click Configure...  On the resulting window, click the "Advanced Properties" tab.  There clear the "Use FFDShow video decoder for post processing" checkbox.  Click OK to exit.

Most likely, it was the FFDShow Raw Video Filter that misbehaved.

You may want to repeat the configuration procedure for all your other three tuners to make sure FFDShow is out of the picture.  That option is off by default, but you may have accidentally turned it on.
