App crash with Windows 8

I have a new win8 installation with MC18 and I keep getting this error when playing videos (Sometimes TV recordings, sometimes Video Files - mkv, avi etc)

I don't have any codec packs installed.  Is the LAV module part of the installation or a plugin that can be removed?

You wouldn't want it to be removed.  That's what does video decoding in MC, and it is very nice.

Try updating your video card drivers.  If you have Intel graphics, old drivers are almost certainly the cause.

I have a nVidia GT430 and I have the latest official drivers.  There are some beta drivers out but I'm never too keen on beta drivers. Will try them tho.

Does it make a difference if you toggle the hardware acceleration in Options > Video?

I have installed the latest beta drivers (310.64) and have turned down the anti-aliasing on the Theatre view settings and so far so good.  Will keep testing.

I do have Hardware acceleration turned on.  If I get an error again, I'll try turning it off.

turned off hardware acceleration and the error keeps coming.  Is this an nVidia problem?  If it is, I will try swapping the card.
