Hi all,
Im considering running a pair of client pc's in the gym and spare bedroom, and want some advice on where the financial priority should go.
My server is a sandy bridge i5 (HD3000 graphics) setup with a few hard drives in, that doubles up as a player for the living room. I'm looking at the new 'dark knight' asus router to replace my aging 'g' type netgear unit (that crashes constantly)
I would like to attempt 1080p streaming wireless, but if not- 720p would be fine.
The question is, do the client pc's need to be very capable (ie would a little intel atom 1080p capable unit manage) and do any upscale/downscaling themselves or can all processing etc be done in the server before sending over the network to minimize the work?
Is a typical hard drive and i5 processor capable of running the processing for 2 or 3 1080p clients at a time?
How would i set all media to be downsampled for distribution across the network in order to reduce load in the meantime (in order to try it out)
Thanks guys
