Zone implementation - not as expected
« on: January 08, 2013, 01:27:14 pm »

I’m having difficulty in getting this to work properly.

I use Theater View and a remote exclusively for viewing and playback. I only have two zones set up for testing purposes – ‘Main’ & ‘Zone 1’.

I have MC set up to always start in the ‘Main’ zone (I need a reference point as there is no way (I’ve found) to determine the current zone state in Theater View). If I click on the ‘Zone 1’ menu item (say in the Playlist view) I get a short informational pop-up recognizing the key-press. This suggests to me that that zone (Zone 1) should now be active. If I then proceed to play a playlist I’m typically dumped back into the Main zone. Not exactly what I’m expecting.

The output mode of the Main zone uses WASAPI – Event Style (no DSP Studio augmentation except Output Format)

The output mode of Zone 1 uses WASAPI – Event Style with Output Format & Volume Levelling (which I’d like to be able to use when playing playlists)

Zones ‘Main’ and ‘1’ are without exception rules except for zone exclusivity.

I’m running the latest release build.

Any insight much appreciated.

Make sure ZoneSwitch is off if files are going to an unexpected zone.

Can you expand on that? I read that as meaning I need to disable ZoneSwitch. Wouldn’t that defeat the purpose of zones? Or are you telling me that zones can work independently of the ZoneSwitch. (Something I’ve never tried) I was under the impression the switch was an integral part of zone operation.

I don’t understand what you mean by an unexpected zone.

Thanks for taking the time to respond.

Zoneswitch was only added a little while ago.  It does appear (currently) to overide any manual redirection to a specific zone.

Or are you telling me that zones can work independently of the ZoneSwitch.

They're independent.

Start with zones.  Switch manually.  Get everything working.

Once you're comfortable with that, if you still think automatic switching would be useful, investigate ZoneSwitch.

Ok … now that I have a better grasp of the logic behind this I can begin to apply method to my madness.

Thanks!
