Handheld/Device options - how to set audio filename?
« on: January 20, 2013, 07:25:16 pm »

Anyone know a way to set the filename to be used on audio files sent to a device? Options Audio Path sets only the folderpath.

Thanks.

You can't.  The sync mechanism relies on matching certain values, one of them being filename (with suffix changed of course).

OK, thanks MrC. Fingers crossed for this limitation to be remedied in a future version.

The sync match key does not include the filename, according to other reports e.g. http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=56600.msg384192#msg384192 .

But +1 anyway.

The match key does not, that's correct.

After thinking about this last night, I'm no longer sure of my statement.  There is a file list that is maintained  (Database.mpl), and the file paths are checked. Certainly the files need to be read on sync (for tag comparison).  I need to do some more investigation to be more definitive.

In any case, I agree it would be nice to be able to change the file name.

I've found that a change to the filename on the device causes no interference in sync - suggesting that sync is going just by match key.

I agree that Database.mpl maintains a file list, but I don't see evidence supporting your suggestion that the filepaths within are checked upon sync.

I'm going to to assume "The sync mechanism relies on matching certain values, one of them being filename" is not so - especially since checking just the match key is the right way to do it. :) And since that gives me a temporary workaround - amend the device filenames post-sync, externally. Thank you, MrC and MC!

In any case, I agree it would be nice to be able to change the file name.
Can you suggest the best way for me to present that to the Dev's wishlist?

This is correct.  I've posted about this problem before.

In fact, it won't even move an already-synced file if the "folder path" should have changed based on new Tag data.  It updates the file in-place rather than move it as it should.

Drives me nuts.

Perhaps it is shy of making any playlist refresh thereby necessitated.

+1 for filerenaming on sync...I like how the monkey does it...and how to customise bitrate.
