Bug: Library Import fails to update playlist with changes
« Reply #1 on: January 30, 2013, 06:56:46 am »

(Moved by moderator from http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=77821.0 )

1 Click "File | LIbrary | Import... Import a single folder" on a folder containing a .M3U playlist file
2 In another app, add tracks to the .M3U playlist file
3 Repeat #1

Expected: library playlist updated
Observed: "Imported 0 new files." - library playlist not updated

This on WinXP SP3.

This bug was seen two years ago in Media Jukebox 14 http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=58631.msg411304#msg411304 .

Workarounds:
1 Instead at 3 use "File | Import Playlist" - MC says "Updated 1 file that had external changes."
2 First Clear Library (!)

« Reply #2 on: January 30, 2013, 07:51:17 am »

(Moved by moderator from http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=77821.0 )

2 Complete the operation and read the Summary

Expected: "Imported 3 new files." since the operation imported one playlist file and two track files http://img842.imageshack.us/img842/1140/jrmctestwindowsvirtualp.png
Observed: "Imported 1 new file." http://img838.imageshack.us/img838/1140/jrmctestwindowsvirtualp.png

On Win XP SP3.

EDIT: This bug was present 4 years ago in MC12 http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=49658.msg339809#msg339809 .
EDIT: Present still in V19.0.87: http://img42.imageshack.us/img42/1630/krw4.png reported at http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=85858.msg586997#msg586997

Jim, in moving these bug reports from http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=77666.0 , you have erased all of their Subjects.

I assume this was unintentional, so if there's no objection, I'll restore the Subjects here.

I haven't read all of these, but are you aware of the Removed database, and its interaction with Ignore files previously removed from the library?

are you aware of the Removed database
No (and I had read all the Help.)

Searching jriver.com now I find your mentions of the hidden Removed database e.g. http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=71608.msg484111#msg484111 and indeed that database references my unreimportable playlists. That offers another workaround http://img827.imageshack.us/img827/3018/regionkt.png for Bug: Library Import fails to reimport deleted playlists http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=77794.msg528579#msg528579 - thanks!

and its interaction with Ignore files previously removed from the library?
Well, I don't see any Ignore files previously removed from the library option that applies to the File | LIbrary | Import... Import a single folder command in question (rather than to e.g auto-import). Where can I find it?

It's in Tools > Import... > Configure Auto-Import.

I think Tools > Import... > Import a single folder just runs auto-import with the chosen folder.  Its like it creates a one-shot addition to auto-import folders.

To see what's in the removed database, just create a smartlist that contains:

   ~d=r

as a modifier (paste in via Import/Export).

Delete you playlist, and you'll see it gets moved to the Removed database whenever you have Ignore files previous removed.... set.

Thanks for the suggestion but testing shows it doesn't affect this issue with Import a single folder...

I think Tools > Import... > Import a single folder just runs auto-import with the chosen folder.  Its like it creates a one-shot addition to auto-import folders.
... according with the UI distinguishing single folder import and auto-import, and IDing the config as specifically for auto-import.

To see what's in the removed database
Yes, thanks - I already applied that in the workaround I mentioned.

Confirmed.  It appears that files manually imported [edit: and then deleted] this way always go to the Removed database, and there is not a way to configure it otherwise.

I assume you intended e.g. "files manually imported this way are always ignored if in the Removed database".

and there is not a way to configure it otherwise.

I note this problem does not affect MJ14 - where Import a single folder offers [ ] Ignore files previously removed from library.

I corrected my terse statement above.  I meant files that are deleted, that have been imported the way we've described, always go to the Removed database.  In other words, the option has no affect for this method of importation.

The import stuff was reworked in that last couple of versions of MC, since MJ/MC14 for sure.

I meant files that are deleted, that have been imported the way we've described,
I now find files imported the other (i.e. auto) way are equally affected.

always go to the Removed database.
Thanks for the clarification. But note: that does not explain the OP failure. What does is: Import a single folder skips playlists in the Removed database.

In other words, the option has no affect for this method of importation.
I now find it doesn't affect the other (i.e. auto) way, either. :(

Thanks. The bug itself predates that - http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=58631.msg411312#msg411312 . The rework removed the UI control fronting it.

Bug: Library Import fails to reimport deleted playlists
« Reply #15 on: February 01, 2013, 05:17:13 am »

1 Click "File | LIbrary | Import... Import a single folder" on a folder containing .M3U playlist files
2 Verify the playlists appear in library Imported Playlists
3 In Imported Playlists, delete the playlists
4 Repeat #1

Expected: playlists restored to library
Observed: Not. Dialog says "Imported 0 new files."

This on WinXP SP3.
This bug was seen two years ago in Media Jukebox 14 http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=61041.0 .
The same failure occurs if 1) instead uses File | Import Playlist.

Workarounds:
1) Change the disc path of the .M3Us e.g. change filename or move to different folder.
2) Instead import the .M3Us one at a time using File | Import Playlist
3) First Clear Library (!)
EDIT:
4) First delete the references to the playlists in the hidden Removed database mentioned here http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=71608.msg484111#msg484111 - Thanks MrC - by creating a smartlist as so and deleting all the items it shows.

Delete you playlist, and you'll see it gets moved to the Removed database ...

MrC, does this work for you on playlist group deletion? Not for me, e.g.

1 Import some playlists
2 Delete "Imported playlists" group
3 Look in the removed database

Expected: imported playlists
Observed none.

I think the Group Folder is just a grouping mechanism, and not a playlist itself.

Well sure, but deleting a playlist group also deletes all the playlists within. And you'd hope those playlists would go to the removed DB, no?

Maybe it's like holding down the Shift key and hitting Delete in Windows Explorer.

Except that this is not trash - it is a record of removed playlists to be excluded from reimport.

The odd thing is, I just found these removed playlists are indeed excluded from reimport - despite being unseen in the removed database. Seems like there is flaw in the "removed" playlist definition... or execution.
