Samsung AllShare or Serviio or Mezzmo + MC?
« on: February 17, 2013, 08:03:00 pm »

Anyone have any experience using Samsung's Allshare with MC? I just bought a new Samsung TV (Model: UN40ES6100) that has DLNA support using AllShare. Rather than reinventing the wheel I thought I would ask if anyone has experience in setting up the linkage. Specifically I am looking to be able to watch the movies on the MC box via wireless connection.

Reading forums on other services some suggest http://www.serviio.org/  as a better alternative/

others suggest: http://www.conceiva.com/products/mezzmo/

Any thoughts? I would prefer to get the Samsung to talk directly to MC but not being successful doing that so far.

I have it all working pretty well on my ES5400.

I have set up two DNLA servers one which never converts and one which converts to a format I know the Samsung accepts. Most of the time I try to use the "never convert" server. The Samsung accepts most of the stuff I have (or at least most of the stuff I normally want to watch on it (mostly mkv TV shows) and if you do not convert you get full seeking ability (ffw/rew, jumpt to a specific time etc.). For the stuff the TV will not accept (e.g. blu-ray) I use the "convert" server. which converts to an H264-TS high bandwidth stream. Here are the full settings for the "convert" server. "noconvert" is the same except video conversion is set to "never convert"

To set up a DLNA server for the Samsung I would...

Will MC see the Samsung or is there something specific to do?

Thanks for any detailed walkthru.

http://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/DLNA

Just use the info there to add DLNA servers as I described above. If the TV and your MC server are on the same network they will find each other.

The title expression and views are very personal to my circumstances. You should be able to use the defaults and/or customise them to yours.

Ok...I set up a server for Samsung BD/TV and chose the settings you shared.

After my workout today as I got out of the shower the solution came to me...I have two networks: Home and Guest. I had set the TV up on the Guest. I switched it to the Home and after going to Allshare it saw the Samsung server and let me connect. I can now see our movie collection.

Often times it's the simplest things....I feel like a dummy.

Thanks for the help.
