Tablet+JRiver+ NAS
« on: February 27, 2013, 06:05:39 am »

Hi,
my name is Riccardo,
is the first time I post here.
I'm a long time music lover but I know very little about computers.
I would like to start listening my high resolution files and rip the rest of my music collection.
Now I'm going to buy a Synology DS413 for my business and so my question is: can I install JRiver on it and control it with a tablet?
As I said my knowledge of computer is limitated and so what I've asked for is not possible....
Does anybody have some suggestions?
Thank's

Welcome Riccardo.

I'm afraid you cannot install JRiver Media Center on a Synology NAS. A NAS typically runs some customized linux kernel and MC currently only runs on Windows and Mac OSX.

You need either a PC or a Mac to run MC. Once you have that, you can use JRemote (iOS) or Gizmo (Android) to access it remotely.

You could store your music files on the NAS and access them from the windows or mac pc.

Is it sufficient a wifi portable computer or I need a router?
In this case is better a wifi one or cabled?
Which features do I have to look at?
