FLAC on MAC
« on: March 23, 2013, 02:04:54 pm »

Newbie alert

I currently utilize JRiver 17 for my windows 7-64 system with my FLAC files stored on a NAS...  I going to purchase a MacMini so I can free up my Windows System for other non music task.

My question, since I'm not a 'Apple person",  once I get my Mac mini set up as my music server, DAC etc..and connected to my external drives that hold my FLAC music files, is there going to be any issues running those FLAC files I created with windows running on a Mac along with this beta software of JRiver for Mac ??

Sorry for the nob question. Better to ask than fall over the cliff.

FLAC is FLAC, even on a different OS.  Don't expect any problems.

I'm a newbie to this and am using a mac with direct ethernet to a Cambridge stream magic 6. My music files were ripped from CD's to FLAC.
When I go to Upnp the menu shows up and music is there but when it plays it's MP3? It I use the USB  with a memory stick they play
as flac. ?

In the options, double check the conversion settings.  There are two places.  You want the one for the server.  Tools/Options/Media Network.

Go to:  Tools / Options / Media Network / Add or configure DLNA servers...

In the pop-up dialog under Audio, select "Mode:" and set it to "Original"

Now it will play in the original format rather than converting.

Well, expect problems if you are going to use iTunes with FLAC. Most high end music player software for the MAC platform work as a sort of plugin for iTunes.
MC is very nice since there is no problem using it for playing FLAC on the MAC. MC has it own system for music files management.
