I have been comparing a number of DLNA servers to stream music to my Marantz network player; I have just installed the latest MC18 on my PC (Intel I7 WIN7 Pro/64 6G RAM media stored on external 2G HD) all works splendidly apart from one fly in the ointment.

The audio level of streamed music output by MC18 via DLNA as compared to Windows Media and TWONKY or iTUNES via Airplay is so much higher (+15>20 db ?) in level that the music distorts badly on peaks. This is playing the same file on my PC by comparing each server program.

I am new to MC18 and was wondering if I had missed something obvious in the settings? the disparity in the audio levels is as I stated earlier massive; a shame as functionally MC18 complete with JRemote on my iPAD works functionally very well.

In your MC DLNA server settings, have you got conversion turned on? And if you have, is volume levelling turned on?

I've never experienced any overload like this via DLNA, can sometimes achieve it when playing locally on the MC PC depending on the volume mode and levelling settings.

There is very little modification that MC does when playing files over DLNA - if you've got conversion turned off then it should send the file as-is to the player.

How do you know that the audio level is 15 to 20db higher than with other servers? Aren't you just streaming the files to the Marantz for processing?

Have you tried accessing the server from the Marantz device (is it an NA 7004?). I refer to this in the topic above as 'pulling' the files. I don't get the issue when I 'pull' the files. The problem only seems to arise with 24 bit files for me. I suppose this could be because of the wider dynamic range and me not noticing it when playing 16 bit FLAC files.
