Account "timed out"

When I tried to use my purchased JRiver for Mac yesterday, a pop-up informed me that my account had "timed out" and I should visit for help. This seems strange to me since I have paid for the app in full. This was not a trial period that should have "timed out." There were no other instructions, so I chose to "restore" the account. I also downloaded the newest version from the top of this forum. Now, I see I am told in an email, "You have recently restored a licence for Media Center Mac 18. There are 10 restores available in each 12 month period.  There are 9 restores remaining at this time." Why does a new version of the app cause me to use up my available restores?
