Is there a way to have MC automatically perform audio analysis for all files imported?   I don't use Auto-Import...

I usually remember to do the audio analysis on all imported files when I import them... but sometimes I forget, and when they play, I get blasted out of the room.

Alternatively, a nice feature might be to allow a user fixed adjustment in playback output for un-analysized files  That way, while not perfectly adjusted, it prevents blasting and possible speaker damage.

Now usually when I post an idea or request, someone tells me MC already has that feature... I'm hoping !!!

Only with auto-import I think - is there a reason you don't use it?

I find it useful to display [ReplayGain] in my library views for this reason. I also have a view set up specifically to list un-analyzed files. (sometimes auto-import misses a track or two)

Now usually when I post an idea or request, someone tells me MC already has that feature... I'm hoping !!!
You could always use ZoneSwitch with the rule: [Intensity]=[] and create a zone with whatever adjustment you want to make. (e.g. -12dB)

I want to be in control of what's imported, never liked auto-import.   I get new stuff, I import it manually and tag it, but sometimes... I forget the analysis, or accidentally double click a file before analysis and BLAST...

I too have a smartlist to show what is not analyzed.

Zone switch doesn't really work to automatically switch zones to specific audio adjustments and then seamlessly switch back from PlayingNow.  I tried that route to set up specific eq curves for particular tracks, doesn't work from PlayingNow.

It shouldn't blast.  Could you provide more details about your settings?

Also, you can enable auto-import but have it not watch any folders.  I don't recommend this method, but at least you'll get some of the benefits of auto-import like library maintenance, audio analysis, etc.

Matt,

Here are my settings.  If replay gain reduces the volume of an average album by say 12db, then when playing something without replay gain values would play at full volume, on average about 12db higher than tracks with replay gain values.

You might try 'Automatic' gain.  That way, each playlist will play as loud as possible while still keeping volumes the same and avoiding clipping.  I believe that setting would largely solve this problem.

We do guess a Replay Gain for files with no value if they're mixed in a playlist with other files that have a value.  But if _all_ the files have no value, we'll just use 0dB.

Matt,

When I notice this the most... is while tagging a new album.  I accidentally double click on a track, trying to do a slow double click and suddenly that album starts playing and replaces my current PlayingNow list.  I scramble to hit stop to stop the Blasting Music and then recover my original playingNow list from recent playing now's...

I may have found a work around though... I just changed the double click behavior to "add to playing now (play now)".  I'll still make the double click mistake, but at least it won't blast me due to MC doing a best guess for Replay Gain when in a playlist and I won't lose my current playingNow list.

And I could learn to slow double click better...
