Download:
http://files.jriver.com/mediacenter/channels/v18/latest/MediaCenter180207.dmg

18.0.207 (7/3/2013)

1. Fixed: Mouse scroll wheel wasn't working on OSX 10.6 systems.
2. Fixed: On OSX 10.6 systems, it would appear to hang when trying to quit the program.
3. Fixed: Downloading files larger than 2GB could fail.
4. Changed: Tuned how the time remaining is reported in the Action Window during downloads (to work better with large downloads and to be more concise).
5. Fixed: Album and artist fields in "Podcast tag and file renaming rules" now work as expected.
6. Fixed: Ogg Vorbis now fills its compression field with "Ogg Vorbis".
7. Fixed: When converting some FLAC files to ogg, it will no longer tag as "ogv"

18.0.206 (6/28/2013)

1. Fixed: Bold and Italic modes chosen in font picking dialog did not get used.
2. Fixed: Font picking dialog did not initialize to the current font settings.
3. Fixed: Text was unreadable in disabled text edit fields.
4. Fixed: Once Cover View was selected, the top line of the display with the 'leave cover view' button was inaccessible so you couldn't exit cover view.

18.0.202 (6/24/2013)

1. Fixed: Some ALAC files (e.g. those produced by 'Sound Studio 3') were not playable because of a strange looking 'alac' mp4 atom.  We now ignore the strange data.
2. Fixed: Media Center was not honoring the typeface chosen in the font picking dialog.

18.0.201 (6/21/2013)

1. Fixed: Trackpad scrolling did not support the fine scrolling mode, so it was difficult to scroll to a particular item in a list.
2. Fixed: Web page titles on tabs were showing extraneous text.
3. NEW: Support for choosing text fonts using the Options dialog 'Select font...' item under Tree & View.
4. Fixed: Tag saving to APE files was not working (Mac only).
5. Changed: Switched the default audio buffering method to 'Hardware default' to work better with devices that don't properly support hardware buffer size changes (configurable in Options > Audio > Output mode settings...).
6. Fixed: Typing into the Search box could cause crashes when a MC Windows library had been transferred to Mac and it contained long field values (e.g. Lyrics field).
7. Changed: When a file has no Replay Gain, a Replay Gain of -10dB will be used if no other files in Playing Now are analyzed (otherwise the average of analyzed files is used).

18.0.197 (6/14/2013)

1. Fixed: Options dialog could a crash if volume mode was set to disabled.
2. Fixed: Periodic freeze-ups in the DLNA servers (build 196 only).

18.0.196 (6/13/2013)

1. Fixed: SSDP server would die after a varying period of time.

18.0.195 (6/11/2013)

1. Fixed: Library server syncing was not working from a Windows client to a Mac server.
2. NEW: Added support for OGG input format.
3. Changed: Car Radio automatically cleans up duplicate static playlists that used the same index.
4. Changed: SSDP advertisement could hard kill the advertiser in some cases, leaving sockets and/or the internet layer in an undefined state.
5. Fixed: Small icons could draw too large in a details list in some cases.
6. Changed: Basic HTML text formatting tokens like < b >, < font >, < u >, etc. will be supported in almost all text drawing (previously they only worked in some areas of the program).
7. Changed: Updated Chinese language files (thanks kelijun).
8. Changed: When switching tracks that require a hardware stop / start like on a sample rate change, the startup silence option will be honored (silence will be maximum of between track gap and startup silence gap).
9. Fixed: Temp files created for .wvc files are now renamed to their final name when done when encoding Wavpack.
10. Fixed: Empty temp files are no longer created when encoding lossless Wavpack.
11. Changed: Wavpack files now display compression information.
12. Changed: When acting as a DLNA renderer, Media Center will use "error free" mode so that playback errors won't cause message boxes to display (since the controller is normally in a different place).

18.0.194 (6/4/2013)

1. Fixed: Media Center could become unresponsive to mouse clicks following showing of a pop-up error dialog. Mostly a problem on OSX 10.8.
2. Changed: Fullscreen modes are not always-on-top (please report any focus or z-ordering issues).

18.0.193 (5/31/2013)

1. Fixed: Audio playback was not working correctly in build 192.

18.0.192 (5/30/2013)

1. Fixed: Media Center would appear frozen in certain cases where a pop-up dialog was showing underneath the app and MC would be unresponsive.
2. Fixed: FLAC reference code would crash when encoding when an estimated total size was provided to the encoder, the 'verify' option was enabled, and encoding duration exceeded the estimated duration.
3. Changed: Updated Chinese language file (thanks kelijun).
4. Fixed: Stopping or switching tracks during Library Server client playback could lead to a crash.
5. Changed: When overwriting a Car Radio preset, the preset will default to using the same name.

18.0.191 (5/24/2013)

1. Fixed: Webview reload button didn't work and could cause crashes.
2. Fixed: Some local default web pages were missing.
3. Changed: Added more debug logging to try to determine cause of intermittent SSDP failures.

18.0.190 (5/23/2013)

1. Changed: Enhanced WebView to support intercepting link clicks for webradio playback.
2. Fixed: WebView would not get keyboard focus so you couldn't type into web forms.
3. Changed: Added the ability to select the output bitdepth when using Kernel Streaming (Options > Audio > Output mode settings...).
4. Changed: Updated Polish translation (thanks Janusz Grzybek).
5. Changed: Radio buttons will use multiple lines for their text when necessary instead of truncating the text (helps with large font sizes).
6. Changed: Updated the French language translation (thanks rlebrette).
7. Fixed: If a connection to a Library Server was sporadic, it could lead to cases where a link to external cover art could be lost.
8. Fixed: Mono ALAC files were not being parsed or played correctly.
9. Fixed: In some cases, 5.1 input was not working with the FLAC encoder.
10. Fixed: When using 'Gapped' playback mode, the gap would not be honored when switching hardware output formats (normally sample rate).
11. Fixed: The playback position could be incorrect when using a gapped playback mode.
12. Changed: When converting a file with a bitdepth greater than 24, the engine will convert to 24-bit (with dither) to feed the encoder (since few encoders support more than 24-bit files).
13. NEW: DSP Studio can be enabled during audio conversion (Library Tools > Convert Format), allowing resampling, channel mixing, convolution, etc.
14. Fixed: A rare crash when parsing certain MP4 audio files.

18.0.187 (5/17/2013)

1. Fixed: Importing or playing APE format files in OSX 10.6 would crash.
2. NEW:  Internal web browser support.  We still need to implement catching links so we can (for example) make web radio playback easier.
3. Changed: Audio Path will better show when a padded bitdepth (like 24-bit inside a 32-bit container) is in use.
4. Fixed: The phrase "JRSS Subwoofer (x Hz lowpass)" in Output Format configuration could not be translated.
5. Fixed: In some cases, 5.1 input was not working with the FLAC encoder.
6. Fixed: When using 'Gapped' playback mode, the gap would not be honored when switching hardware output formats (normally sample rate).
7. Fixed: The playback position could be incorrect when using a gapped playback mode.

18.0.182 (5/14/2013)

1. Fixed: Tagging in the action window could crash.

18.0.181 (5/10/2013)

1. Fixed: Some m4a and alac files would not import or play because of a mismatched sample count in the mp4 STTS header.  We now ignore this error since it shouldn't impact playback performance.
2. Fixed: Radio streams would 'click' every few seconds because metadata was not getting parsed out of the stream.

18.0.180 (5/8/2013)

1. Fixed: Tooltips were not showing properly in the last few builds.
2. Fixed: Clicking away from an in-place list edit control would not reliably stop the editing.
3. Fixed: DoP bitstreaming of DSD was not working with some devices.
4. Fixed: Hardware with complex buffer arrangement could crash when playing to only some of the channels.
5. Changed: Updated German language file (thanks Bytestar).
6. Changed: Updated Polish translation (thanks Janusz Grzybek).
7. Changed: Czech language translation updated (thanks Johnny B).

Yeah, this isn't bug report.

Because so far I haven't run into any bugs :thumb :thumb

And thanks a whole bunch for the ability to customize the custom display…  Very nice!

EDIT: ok so here is a bug.
After fussing with and trying different fonts, and after closing the options window, the app won't exit from either the red X nor from the file menu Exit/alt-F4  But after force quitting and restarting the app, it exits properly…

EDIT-2: The list of tracks in the 'Play Now' window (network player) don't update by themselves.  I have to move the mouse over that portion of the window to get it to change.

But ONLY when MC isn't running as the main app.  IOW if you're browsing or using another program… the playing now list won't update by itself.

I've been a very bad alpha/beta tester recently, but part of my issue is that the bulk of my library is stored as APL files, which don't seem to work on the Macintosh side of the world. The APE masters that the APLs point to playback fine, and it looks like that tags & artwork that are embedded in the APE file come through properly, but APLs just fail to import....

And another player anomaly…

The player just stops playing for no apparent reason…

But now the exit functions don't work, so Force Quit.

Comes back fine.

Not sure how long this has been an issue (perhaps forever), but at least the last few builds...

Standard View doesn't work right with dual displays.  When MC's UI is on the secondary monitor, the right-click context menu appears at the edge of the primary monitor, rather than where it should be under your mouse pointer.  Makes it essentially impossible to use (at least, any of the context menus) with MC on a secondary display.

Running the current build on the latest version of Mountain Lion (on an Ivy Mac Mini, though that likely doesn't matter much).

It appears that just about any anomalous behavior will disable the 'normal' exit function.

Force Quitting is still required more often than not.

Like one said above.  Twice today MC has just stopped.  Once I noticed a loop when observed in the Activity Monitor.  Once it just abended (I did not save the info).

The 5 sec shuffle is still a problem.

So I switch back to USB and the progress bar, volume slider and track timing info are non-op, even after restarting the app several times and after a complete shutdown and re-boot.  All the rest of the info in that portion of the display is alive and well.

AND

The 'Play Now List' does not update itself properly.  Same behavior as I previously described when running in network player mode.

EDIT:  accessing the DSP studio from the "Player" pull down menu works fine, but the DSP Studio button inside the 'Audio Path' button (beside the repeat and shuffle buttons) doesn't work.  It did back in v.197.

Did you try setting the hardware audio buffer to default size?  http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=81357.msg554479#msg554479

We are running Mac OS 10.8.4 on a recent Mac Pro.  J River is working fairly well, but we notice that genres are not loading properly.  For some music, the genres load.  For other music, the genres show up as (0) or (2) etc. instead of the actual genre.  The files load and the genres display properly in iTunes.  All files are Apple Lossless.  Any ideas?  Thank you.

As I continue to use 207 and restart it up each day, the ability to not have to fuss with getting it running properly, ie. restarting, and waiting to see if it functionally behaves properly, is deteriorating.

3 restarts this evening to be able to play.

I do wonder if the locally stored 'preference' and 'settings' files are getting hammered due to not being shut down 'normally'.

Of course if the app resets all these stored settings to known values during each 'On' session then the accumulation of such 'errors' is minimized.

Just a thought.

Has been working well, now froze during red book play.

What is the 'best' way to close ?  does not respond to Exit.

Yes, or right-click (aka control-click) the MC icon in the Dock with the Option key down, and select Force Quit.   The option key switches between Quit and Force Quit.

So I was messing around with smartlists and trying to get a single list to show me all of my 4 and 5 star rated tracks.

Not happening anywhere near reality as I know it.

I tried all Boolean combinations and none of them worked properly.  I even tried a single 4 star and a single 5 star smartlist.  Not working anywhere near correctly.

Just thought you should know.

JRiver used to work better when it was an alpha release. Now no matter what new beta version I get, playback will fail at some point. (fail means it'll skip (no sound) for a second). and its impossible to replicate the issue, so I have no idea were to begin trying to figure it out. All I know is that it tends to happen after some time. maybe after 1 or 2 hours.

Information that maybe can be usefull: I never close JRiver and I don't have a dedicate server. I Play music and do all the stuff I need to do on the same system. I leave it open and sometimes I hit pause and leave and stop using the computer. When I get back I hit play again.

Today it won't even begin to play thru the media network.

I've restarted the app 4 times and now all it does is get caught in the 5 sec do-loop.

When I change to the MC player (USB) it plays immediately.

So I find the ‘stock’ 4 and 5 star list and look at what is displayed…
There are no 5 star rated tracks listed…
So I mess with the filter and set it to IS 4, 5 with the same results no 5 star tracks.

Then I change the filter to ≥ 4 with no change in results.

Then I create a single is 4 star and add a single is 5 star as a second line and no 5 stars show up.

Then I create a single is 4 star list, and all (I assume) the 4 star tracks show up
Then I create a single is 5 star and 5 star tracks show up
But the numbers start looking peculiar.

So here are the # of tracks listed, using different boolean expressions…

IS 4 stars = 471 tracks
IS 5 stars = 98 tracks  (this yields 569 total)

> 4 stars = 44 tracks (this should match the # of 5 star tracks)
≥ 4 stars =  471 tracks (this should be the total of all 4 and 5 stars,  or 569)

IS 4, 5 = 427 tracks  (this should be the total of all 4 and 5 stars,  or 569)

Is NOT 1, 2, 3 = 369 tracks  (this should be the total of all 4 and 5 stars,  or 569)

You can see why I doubted the numbers…

There are one problem I see in your testing.

   > Is NOT 1, 2, 3 = 369 tracks  (this should be the total of all 4 and 5 stars,  or 569)

This will also include unrated tracks.  Without data here, it is hard to tell if there are other problems.

If you export your entire playlist as an MPL, I'll Import and see if I can reproduce.  Also as a CSV.

Select the files in question, and use File > Export Playlist.  Select:

   Format: Text File (CSV delimited)
   Included Fields: All Fields
   Output Range: Selection

Save both to the Desktop, zip them, and attach the zip in a reply here.

Ah yes I see where the not 1,2,3 would include the unrated tracks.  Which should make that total even larger than the 4 and 5 star total and not yield a smaller # of tracks.

So in trying to get 'all' of my smartlist files, the only filter I can see to use is ≥1 which results in only ≈ 1/2 of the total number of tracks 1551 of 3087.
Which does work out when the number of unrated tracks (1536) is added to the number of rated tracks (1551)  =  3087.

I also created a list of all files that has all 3087 listed tracks.

So there are 4 files in the zip

Of the 3087 entries in the mpl, I was only able to import 3045, since I have to remove Filename to do the import without the actual files.  This means there are duplicate entries, and the last dup will win on import.

So given what I've imported, you have:

5 Star: 44
4 Star: 427
3 Star: 820
2 Star: 260
1 Star: 0
0 Star: 1494

Total: 3045

Stock Smartlist:
4 or 5 Stars: 471 (correct)

Created Smartlists:
Rating range 4 to 5: 471 (correct)
Rating is 5: 44 (correct)
Rating > 4: 44 (correct)
Rating >= 4: 471 (correct)
Rating >=1 and <4: 1080 (correct)
Rating >=1 and <=4: 1507 (correct)
Rating >=1 and <=5: 1551 (correct)

I think we can say that Smartlists using Ratings is working correctly.

Those numbers don't correlate with what my system reports.

So while it may be correct on your system it isn't on mine.

So where does that leave us?

Without seeing your views, your data, and how you're doing things, I can't say for certain.

You could make a backup of your library and share the library for someone to look at.  I employed a cheap method, which was to import your file entries.  Not all were imported, but I doubt this was the discrepancy.  You can try to factor those in to see if the numbers might account for differences.

If you're going to share your Library Backup, then be sure to create all the Smartlists first.  Place them all into a Playlist group so its obvious which to test.

I see.
Well since this aspect of the program is relatively low on the list of important functions, I'll just leave it alone for now.

It was my intention to give a heads up to those who are keeping score, that something within these routines can give erroneous results.

I'll just ignore these functions until they are needed.

Thanks for the effort.

By all means, make a library backup available.  Without anyone being able to verify your results, its premature to say that  there's an error here.  Your testing methods and results need to be replicated.

I understand.

But as I see it these "errors" or what I'd call discrepancies may well be caused by the preference and initialization files stored locally.

I say this because these discrepancies don't cause crashes or anomalous behavior (I can still shut the app down after fussing with these filters) and the app behaves 'normally'.  So code doesn't seem to be crashing into other code.

And as I said, these functions really aren't all that important to me.  As I see this s/w developing, it looks like there is quite a bit of work to be done, and this problem is way down on the 'hot list'.

I'm much more focused upon stability and consistently repeatable operation, than secondary features.

Ok, your call.

... may well be caused by the preference and initialization files stored locally.

This wouldn't explain what you're seeing.

The content shown in MC views are entirely based on its database and queries.  If the basic smartlist queries are not working, ALL views and items would be affected by this.  You'd be seeing random results all over the place.

The Custom choice under a tab's Sort By is bringing up a blank fly-out menu.  See:

Not to be hard headed and just to be clear…
snip
> This wouldn't explain what you're seeing.
I have worked on and with computers (personally and professionally) for the better part of 25+ years.  I have repaired OS's and applications by manually replacing specific files (or getting them to be rebuilt).  I have already performed these sorts of 'surgical procedures' twice during the time I have been using the alpha versions of MC. This isn't my first 'rodeo' with alpha/beta and database based s/w.

And perhaps MC doesn't need to be closed down 'properly' like just about every other app I know of, but I can tell when an app starts going sideways and I have seen this same familiar pattern when MC doesn't get a chance to close itself normally (force quit).  It starts up 'hard', takes more time to bring up my network DAC, and the amount of time until MC starts to malfunction is directly related to how much 'abuse' (code crashing into other code), MC has 'endured'.  These repeated occurrences result in the display ceasing to update itself, or the network loosing its 'synch' with the DAC etc. all of which seem to be causally related.  And maybe MC truly isn't subject to this type of 'abuse' but the symptoms and behaviors are the same, all based upon my experience.

> The content shown in MC views are entirely based on its database and queries.  If the basic smartlist queries are not working, ALL views and items would be affected by this.  You'd be seeing random results all over the place.

Again let me be clear here.
I am saying the the database functions ARE working properly, they are just returning incorrect information from these queries.  All of the search and filter functions work without drama (crashes etc.) but something (at least as my s/w is installed) returns incorrect numbers.  To me this isn't a 'hard error' (resulting in crashing or "random results all over the place") but is due to an 'external' influence, which messes with the results, but not the means to generate those results.

These are just my observations with no mal-intent meant.

put songs directly into a playlist does not work...
« Reply #39 on: July 22, 2013, 10:05:43 am »

A simple thing does not work: I want to import songs directly into a playlist and it just does not work. There is a Plus sign that ppears in the playlist window when I drag the files, but the files are not there, nora are they imported in the program...
The only way I can add the songs is by importing, then copy them into the playlist...

I have a reproducible crash as mentioned in http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=81683.0.
It might be related to the way NAIM handles JRiver.

Reports are sent every time a crash happen (to Apple)
Anything i can do to have these report sent to JRiver?

Please read about logging on our wiki.  The Apple report would probably not help.

Is there a newer driver available for NAIM?  Please use a different thread for discussion.
