MJ 8.0.230 Beta Available...
« on: March 19, 2002, 01:00:45 pm »

Media Jukebox 8.0.230 beta is available:
ftp://ftp.jriver.com/pub/downloads/music/MediaJukebox8.exe

Please backup your library and your license.

DSP plug-in and MJ internal DSP will not work in this build.

(note: you can use "Help->Check for Updates" if you've installed a previous beta of 8.0 to reduce the download size)

History:
1. Fixed: In mini-me mode Metamorphis skin windows would be visible in Task Manager.
2. Fixed: Move/Copy Disk file menu item would open Quick Find window.
3. Changed: Redesigned DSP plug-in implementation. Now any DSP plug-in can be started by right clicking on DSP bottom with right mouse button.
4. Changed: Clicking with left mouse button will display/hide active DSP plug-in.
5. NEW: Added option to automatically import played files into Media Jukebox.
6. Fixed: In CD labeler, rotated text and shaded regions printed incorrectly on Win98/ME systems.
7. Fixed: Ripping to uncompressed wave file would overwrite another file with the same name.
8. Changed: Removed Stop playback during importing message.
9. Fixed: Conversion of files when uploading to Handhelds, now cleans the transfer queue correctly.
10. NEW: Custom field names now saved in mediafiles.jmd
11. NEW: Player control architecture restructured to easily allow for more flexible and powerful DSP usage.
12. Fixed: "Disk Writer" would not cross-fade properly.
13. Fixed: "Disk Writer" would be too CPU intensive.
14. NEW: MPEGplus playback plug-in is now included in the build.
15. NEW: Created native MPEGplus encoder plug-in.
16. NEW: MPEGplus encoder added to the list of supported encoders.
17. NEW: MPC, MP  and MPP file extensions added to the list of default file formats.
18. NEW: More aggressive memory de-allocation -- MJ's memory usage is often substantially less.
19. Fixed: File associations would not always unregistered.
20. Fixed: Media View items with a backslash in them would not work properly.
21. Fixed: Custom menus would not always display properly on multi-monitor systems.
22. Fixed: A memory leak in the "Image" visualization component.
23. Fixed: MJ would not always notify the system about file association change.
24. Fixed: MJ was not allowing duplicate tracks to burned to an audio CD.
25. Fixed: Copying from a list in MJ would not work properly with custom column orders.

Nikolay - DSP is definitely off. Are you intending to reintroduce this in a later build or do I need to download something?

Errr. I guess I missed something somewhere - I decided to check out mini-me skins and switched over to one of the skins (don't remember which).

I then picked "SHOOB" and got an email message about this and that being incompatible and now I don't have an MJ window of any kind but the tunes play on!

John,

DSP will be back in next build. We are switching to MJ DSP plug-in but Winamp DSP plug-ins will be still supported.

Cool. I've always wanted to open my Microsoft Project files in MJ. This really IS the player that does it all.

I still can not detect a CD-R drive. The detect button does not produce anything, beyond a box saying "Please wait while the program detects your CD writing". The "CD Writer", "Write Speed", and "Use generic driver" are all greyed out.

This did not work in 227.

Device manager, aspi, and other CD-R software (CDRWin & Nero) all see the drive, which is a SCSI Panasonic/Matsushta 7502, and the other software can access it.

Evil abounds. I copied a couple of tracks to WMA and minimized; on finish and return to normal size the tree had vanished back down to one CD icon and garbage text next to it. MJ was completely unresponsive, but did respond to the close box.

Double-clicking one of those new WMA files caused a divide by zero error and an instant crash. Second time I tried it, immediately, it launched and played.

>21. Fixed: Custom menus would not always display properly on multi-monitor systems.
I don't know what this applies too but all custom menus I see are still going off screen, unviewable (including tray icon).

Slider bar (Display/Playlist) doesn't update when selecting a plugin scheme from the right click menu.

When using visualizations schemes (such as Clean N Tidy) in Track Info Displays (DJ), the text gets all crunched together.
I know this is probably hard coded info but is there a way to make the visualization window resizable within?

Trying to play a song from Music01 crashes MJ. Library loads fine. It was working fine in previous build.

Location: (I know I said I wouldn't mention them again but these are new)
(Unassigned): I think this is because I have http:// streams imported.
m01p://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:yyyy/C: is all that displays when using music01 (no sub directories)

Nothing shows up when clicking on either of these.

Typos:

Move/Copy: "Select a folder where you want to move/copyselected disk file(s)."
Install Wizard: Shows version 7.1 (2nd window that pops up when installing)
Plug-in Manager/Input: "If a needed plug-in is not found on your system, Media Jukebox will download & install necessary input plug-in automatically."

As you can see...I'm starting to get picky. More to come later if I find them. Next Page

Select vis studio, go full screen, tools, options. The options screen gets buried under the vis studio window. Should it be on top?

There's definitely a vis that crashes it 100% of the time. But because I crash before I can see what it is, I have no clue what it is. If I try to launch a file from double clicking, and that vis was the last loaded, it crashes immediately.

Severian, check here: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\JRiver\Music Exchange\1.0\Media Jukebox\Plugins\Display\Current Script

King, It could be that. It was going too fast to actually read anything.

I guess I can't connect to Music01 servers at all. MJ comes to the front but that's it.

No such key. Closest I have is
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\JRiver\Music Exchange\1.0\Media Jukebox\Plugins\Display\Visualizations.
The CLSID is {CE5BC8B7-ACDF-4118-B22A-DE0D5B73270A}, if each vis itself is a COM object. Didn't think it was though.

It's in "Display", sorry.

-
When right clicking the visualiztion window, left clicking clicks twice. It clicks the menu item and whatever happens to be under it. The same goes for in mini-me (winamp). This has been in all builds, including alphas.

This vis studio .dll is evil. If the internal window is even slightly exposed MJ barfs right now. Only way to get MJ to play now is select Now Playing and click the up arrow or drag it before trying to start the player. As long as the song list is showing, no VOODOO.

Client side of a Music01 connection crashes with a div by 0 exception.  Both client and server are 230.  I tried a 227 client with a 230 server and it worked fine.  Forgot to try a 230 client with a 227 server before upgrading both sides.

Application popup: Media Jukebox.exe - Application Error : The exception Integer division by zero.
(0xc0000094) occurred in the application at location 0x04fe68bc.

Another issue with Music01 (discovered with 227) is the fact that when a client opens a remote library, it's not obvoius that it's read-only.  You are allowed to create playlists, for instance, which disappear if you disconnect and reconnect.  You should not be allowed to alter a remote library, or at least a "read-only" should appear somewhere.  Of course, it would be really cool if you COULD update a remote library (with appropriate authorization).  Another cool enhancement I'll add to the "wish list" later would be to have both a remote and local library open at the same time so you can create a local playlist from a remote library without having to create it in the remote library, export it, close the remote library, then import to the local one.

Okay!
Have not seen this one before!

Listening to a playlist, got to where usually the DIBENG.DLL would pop-up(40minutes of music).

Had three windows opened in IE.

This came up
MJ Player
Internal buffering error in Media Jukebox's playback engine.
Playing buffer accumulated too much spent data.

Please report this error to JRiver as soon as possible so that
   it can be fixed.

When I click OK the music starts than stops.  If I keep clicking fast enough the music will play.

I still cannot get MJ to update ID3 tags on more than 1 file at a time. Now I can only do 2. On the third time of clicking on the Properties button, MJ shuts down with errors. Good luck hunting down this bug; here is the Dr. Watson log info:

Bugs (under Win2k testing):

1. mini-me Always On Top does not work
2. Some skins will not load from mini-me's right-click menu, but will from Skin Manager
3. If mini-me fails to load a new skin, the revert back to default skin feature fails and leaves just an MJ icon in the task bar
4. When returning to MEGA-Me from mini-me mode, the MJ MEGA-Me (normal) screen is not made actice (ie, does not have the focus...requires Alt-Tab or mouse-click to regain the focus)
5. A while back, the Home node was renamed Start, but the View menu and Customize Toolbars dialog still call it Home (inconsistant)
6. In Customize Toolbar, the Open Streaming File toolbar item still has the underscore displayed under the S character (as if someone accidently left the & character in the description)

I was listening to a playlist consisting of only two APL files (both 30 minutes in length - both from the same 60 minute APE). At some point, MJ crashed. This is WITHOUT running visualizations, only a Track Info page (without a vis on it).

When I right click on the display window with a video playing (format doesn't matter), the menu appears far away from where I actually clicked.

Bugs:

1. When burning Data CDs, MJ still complains about it is going to truncate file names to 64 characters when using the GoldenHawk driver (not the generic driver).  In an MJ release a few weeks ago, a fix was reported that we would be able to burn file names with 108 (or 110) characters using GoldenHawk and 64 when using the generic driver.

2. If, indeed, the MJ error box said it was going to truncate the file names to 64 characters, MJ actually truncated the names to 60 characters (56.3 or <56charname>.mp3 format).  I thought it said 64...maybe it said 60 and I'm dillusional.

Whenever I try to play a song from e-music MJ crashes.  And if select a rmp file from the default Download Manager directory, MJ crashes.

KingS,

Wrong (respectfully)...in version 7.0 and prior, MJ burned upto 108...it's an MJ setting that is wrong.  I have hundreds of CD-R/Ws that have files on them with names over 64 characters.

[from 224 beta release notes]

20. Changed: Filename length for CD burning is allowed to be up to 108 characters using Goldenhawk, 64 characters for generic.

Bug (I guess):

1. Just figured out a cool thing MJ does for in-place editing...but it seems it is just a bit flawed (bugged), maybe.  Basically, you can press F2 to start in-place of a field, but it's hard to tell MJ which field.  It seems you have to 'tell' MJ which field you want to edit with F2 press by first right-clicking the field (column), cancelling that click and, then, pressing F2.  I know I could choose Rename from the right-click menu, but it seems flawed...play with F2 rename and see what I mean.  It seems you should be able to tell MJ which field an F2 rename is for my just left click the field (column) during the selection process and then pressing F2.  After you play with the F2 method, I think you'll agree (I hope).  As is now, F2 rename follow whatever field (column) you last right-clicked on...but, you use left-clicks to select (normally)...so, seems left-clicks on fields should count too for telling MJ what you want to rename (F2).

Yes, I noticed that too. I agree with what you are saying.

Another thing would be when you right click, it should start editing where the mouse pointer is, not at the top of the list. That way you can "left click, F2, enter" to rename fields faster.
