Movie control on a DLNA device - help?
« on: July 28, 2013, 10:28:09 pm »

We just set up a new Samsung PN60F5500 today and accessed a movie on the pc running JR (latest version as of this date). The movie (2 hrs 23min) played for about 1 hr 30 (?) and stopped. We had to exit and when we went back to the movie it started over. The controls on the bottom of the screen to fast forward were grayed out so we had no ability to go back to where it stopped.

Any suggestions on settings or changes that would:
1) prevent that from happening again
2) get the fast forward controls to be accessible from the tv menu?

Note: We do have a setup for another Samsung TV we use and are accessing it for the new Samsung.

Appreciate any suggestions.

Following up (hoping to get some feedback) I note that I can go to the PC that MC resides on, play movies and have full control (pause, fast forward, etc.) on the monitor or TV the PC is attached to but NOT on any device accessing the movies.

Q1: Why?

Q2: What can be done about it?

Honestly, the lack of ability to be able to have incremental control, FF, etc., from remove devices streaming content is an issue. Hopefully I am just missing a setting and can make a change so if/when a movie or other streaming content fails during the playback we don't need to restart from the beginning.

Appreciate any and all feedback.

Follow up:

Since I added a new Samsung 60" (5500 model) smart tv my needs have changed. I now need to be able to play music and movies on devices/tv's on the network. Since the ability to start, stop, rewind and restart movies is something that is important to me and since it doesn't appear that MC allows that on networked devices and since no one had offered any solutions I thought I would try a different direction.

I download Plex's latest software and installed it, configured it (they have a wizard) and installed the Plex app on the TV. Plex took about 10 minutes to organize my movies, download artwork and information. I configured the app, gave it the IP of the Plex server and off to the races. I can see and stream all movies with full control. So, it appears that Plex will do what I need to do at this point in time so if it continues to work then I'll transition off MC.

Not trying to promote a competitive (it is free) product but I did want to provide input since I posted and a number of people had read the post.
