Adding a Radio Channel to Theatre View
« on: September 11, 2013, 12:55:43 pm »

I am sure it is very obvious, but could someone please explain to me how to add radio channels to Theater View?

Note: the radio channels have .asx urls like this one http://bbc.co.uk/radio/listen/live/r1.asx (BBC Radio One) which presumably delivers a playlist payload containing one or more internal stream urls, which may be dynamically assigned. So want to have the .asx url accessible via Theater View rather than a possible no longer valid dynamic stream url..

I think you need to make a playlist for each station.

Jim is right. You need to save the playlist, then access that from Theater View.
Doesn't give you what you want, but I believe its the only way to do it.

I don't think that solves the requirement at all..

The radio station publishes a fixed url where one can download a .asx file. And this .asx contains url(s) to the final content. Whereas the outer .asx url is fixed, the inner url(s) can be different each time that the outer .asx is downloaded. -- Because if the radio station was in a position to publish fixed inner urls, they wouldn't bother with the extra complexity wrapping them in an outer .asx file...

So, in other words, what is needed is a mechanism in MC to add the url of the outer .asx file to the playlist. And not to add the inner url extracted at a particular instant from the contents of the outer .asx file. Because although this latter inner url may indeed be valid at the time of downloading the .asx, there is no guarantee of it remaining valid for for any length of time...
