Wasapi loopback and Spotify
« on: September 26, 2013, 11:36:22 pm »

Hi,

Since Spotify has decided to ignored requests to implement Wasapi / ASIO, I am looking for a way to get better sound while listening to Spotify. Here are two options, going thru my V-Link (USB to SPDIF converter) - I am not using any DSP, etc...:

1/ Spotify -> USB -> V-Link (using the V-Link as default device)

2/ Spotify -> Onboard sound card (Realtek) as default device -> Wasapi Loopback (MC19) -> ASIO -> USB -> V-Link

I think in both case they go thru the Windows mixer which is not optimal. In all cases I have set the Sample Rate to 44.1Kz for these audio devices.

My question is: should I see sound improvement in case 2/ since we use ASIO ultimately?

In case 2/, is MC19 intercepting the stream before it is being processed by the audio card, hence at least forcing ASIO as transport vs whatever is used in 1/?

What is even more confusing is that if I disable my audio card and only use my V-Link, and then play a song in MC19 (ASIO) and Spotify at the same time, both songs will be heard (looks like they are both mixed by the ASIO driver?)...

Thanks!
