Files not imported
« on: November 27, 2013, 10:05:53 am »

Files are being 'dropped' from my library

Even after going to my music folder in MC's explorer and clicking "Import" I later find many files missing from my library in the Panes Views.
I again got into the Explorer window and Import them and they show up again.

I have Un-checked where it says "Ignore files previously removed" but yet the missing file do nor reappear when running an Import, only after I go to the folders and Import manually.

This is not new to this build, but has been persistent.

It also causes a loss of playback and other stats.

Check your import settings.

Check your import settings.

They have been . . . repeatedly.  Besides, there are no settings I see which would cause files to be removed. Also . . .

I have Un-checked where it says "Ignore files previously removed" but yet the missing file do nor reappear when running an Import

So what exactly do you suggest I check in my Import settings?

Files are being 'dropped' from my library  >:(

Even after going to my music folder in MC's explorer and clicking "Import" I later find many files missing from my library in the Panes Views.

The most likely cause is that the files in question HAVE been imported, but are incorrectly tagged (perhaps as [Media Type] == blank or data) and are therefore filtered out of your views.

Reimporting files that are already imported will NOT correct this issue, unless you first delete them out of MC's Library and then again out of the Remove Items database.  The easiest way to check is to make an "Advanced" top level view that shows all files, regardless of [Media Type].

Thanks Glynor.

Possible . . . makes sense too.

But not the problem in this case as I checked and they are all 'Media Type = Audio'

Also after manually re-importing they do play fine as behave appropriately in MC.

To do this:

1. Select Playing Now in the Tree (it doesn't matter which one, you just want to select something OTHER THAN Audio, Images, or Video).
2. Go to View > Add View > Add Library View.
3. In the dialog that appears, choose Empty View, and name your view "Advanced" (or something that makes sense to you).  Make sure the Location is listed as (root), and click OK.
4. In the Customize View dialog that appears, add appropriate Categories.  I'd suggest that you use these three as the first three, at least:

Location
Media Type
Media Sub Type

For Location, you pick the File Path option under Type when adding a new category, and then just leave the Select Path box blank.

5. When you've added appropriate Panes, click the Set Rules for File Display button under Settings.
6. Add a Sort By rule to the Modify Results section, and have it sort by: Filename (a-z)
7. Ensure there are no other filters added to the search rules.
8. Set Position to Bottom (so it sorts under Audio, Images, and Video in the tree).  You may also want to uncheck the Support Tree Browsing box.
9. Done.

Now, you'll have a view that shows EVERYTHING in the normal MC Library, and allows you to filter it by Media Type, Sub Type, and File Location.  If you can't find the files in there, then they aren't imported, but if you can, then they're tagged wrong.

I had you add the panes and whatnot directly to the Advanced view in the tree.  In practice, you may find it nicer to make a set of sub-views under the Advanced top-level views, with a variety of different filters and sets of panes.  For example, you could follow steps 1-3 above, and then uncheck the Allow tree selection item in the Customize View dialog.  This makes the view into a sort-of "folder".  Then, you can add a separate sub-view (maybe called "Disk Location" or something) that has the actual Panes you want to use.

only after I go to the folders and Import manually.

This forces MC to re-import the files "fresh" even if they are already imported, which will fix the tagging issues (but, yes, cause you to lose playstats and whatnot).

OK, I set up that View as directed.
The next time I see albums missing from my library I will check there first, then post again with the results. It may be a while before I notice this again . . . I have to be looking to play a particular album that happens to be missing.

Well, this morning after running an Import I checked the 'Advanced' view we created yesterday and found the same albums missing from my library again.

They do not show up in any view (even the Advanced) yet are clearly in place in their proper folder.

They also show in the tagging pain as 'Media Type = Audio'

I have no idea why this is happening . . . I'd be less confused if it was files on my removable drive, but these are on the local drive.

Any suggestions?

Back to MC18, seems to work properly on Importing . . . no missing files.

Will report back after I've used it a bit.  May be an MC19 issue.

I don't think so, though you might be hitting some kind of odd edge case.

Where are the files?

Where are the files?

These are local mp3 files, on the main drive in my laptop.
The files on my removable drive may or may not be having the same issue, but the local file are the ones I have been working with and brought this issue to me attention.

Starting a new library SEEMS to have corrected the issue . . . time will tell.

Unfortunately the cost is the loss of years of playback stats and such  >:(

Appears this problem is related to STACKS . . . .

they are hiding local (mp3) files even when the removable drive is not online (FLAC)

How can I make my STACKS so that local lossy files are available for playback only when their removable lossless top files are offline?

MC continues to drop files . . . .

I started a new library a few weeks back and thought it resolved the problem.  I am still finding albums missing from the library when I look for them, yet they are present on the local drive . . . where they had been when originally imported.

For now, turn off Fix Broken Links in Auto-Import, and then run a manual Auto-Import pass.  That should stop it from happening.

If you have real broken links showing up during regular use, we can address that after we figure out why MC is dropping the files.  Make sure everything is there, as best you can.  But turn that to No for now.
