Hello,
I'm new to the forums and can't seem to search out an answer to my problem.
I`ve stored many of my CD`S into FLAC files which I listen to via my Oppo 95 wirelessly.
That has worked fine throughout MC18 and initially with MC19 but now songs will start playing for a bit then skip forward to the next.
Some times a song will just stop or pause.
The other day I used MC18 without this issue occurring then the next day it to started skipping too.
While I`m not the most tech savvy I did search the forums and tried playing with option settings(buffering etc.) to no avail.
I am somewhat frustrated and would like to go back to enjoying Media Center!
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

PS. I also tried the latest update version of MC19.

That could be a wireless network issue or it could be something else.

Try playing files that are stored locally on a local sound device. Does that work?

Hi JimH,

This is a first, just streamed 4 songs via MC19 to my S3 phone using Gizmo without issue!
Tried to do the same once again through the Oppo Blu-ray player and skipping or pausing from the first song?

HELP!!

Without any network involved. Play files from the hard disk of the same PC to a sound device on that PC.

The way to solve this kind of problem is to test different possibilities to eliminate some.

Ok, I've played a couple songs using my desktop soundcard and speakers without issue via MC19.

I'm able to stream different songs to my cell phone and Oppo at the sametime.
The phone plays without skipping while the Oppo does skip!!
Conclusion......trouble with Oppo?

It could be bandwidth. But experiment with conversion of the audio.

Ripped a CD to the comp MP3 files, it seems to stream fine.
For the first time I watched/streamed via the internet some You-tube music videos. No issues there.
I'm also reaching out to my Oppo dealer for input.

I would really like to enjoy my music streaming at high res quality!!

I can't imagine why it would make any difference. The bottleneck seems to be bandwidth.

Some thoughts (note I don't have an Oppo)

Can you move the Oppo to be closer to your wireless network (router or access point) so it gets a better signal? Better still can you connect it via a cable (even temporarily) to confirm this issue is with your wireless network. Once you've ascertained if it is a factor then there are a few options
- Configure the media centre DLNA setting to convert your files to MP3. This leaves your FLAC collection intact, just sending an MP3 version to the Oppo
- permanently cable the Oppo to the network
- Move the wireless router / AP to a different location
- Use an alternate transmission method (some people have had success with transmission over the power cables - (I'll post a link for this later)
- review what wireless protocol your network is using and what the Oppo is capable of. If an option Wireless N (802.11N) is better then Wireless G (802.11G)

I have a couple of DLNA renderers in use. One of them was connected via 802.11G & I had to set the DLNA server settings to convert my collection (FLAC) to MP3 to avoid skipping issues. In the end I ran an ethernet cable for it

You might also consider using Ethernet over Powerline adaptors. They use your home wiring instead of a network cable.

Oppo says to use a Catagory5/5E Ethernet cable.
I presume a Catagory6 will do?

You can use Cat6 if you want. That won't really gain you anything in most installations, but it could conceivably future proof you if you're running the lines through walls and stuff. In that case:

Are you in a remote area? Any electronics shop should have Ethernet cables. Radio Shack here in the U.S., for instance.

Hardware stores have them often too. Both Lowes and Home Depot carry both pre-made and bulk Cat 5 cable here.

I'm tired, had a long day......got a cat6 Ethernet cable.
I hooked it up in a rush so I can get some dinner going.
Started MC19 up, pressed play and it got to the 1min 53sec point and stopped on the first song....AAARRRGGGGHHHH!!
Yeah and it's skipping after playing the first min or so of the song.
I need to get dinner going, think I'll go put a CD in the player and put this out of my mind for now.

Please advise if able.

I'll recheck that tomorrow, I'm pretty sure I switched my settings over to Ethernet from wireless.

Ok,
There was a time that MC18 and MC19 worked without issue wirelessly streaming FLAC music files to my Oppo95.

With no changes in my network, songs would play for a bit(@1min) then skip ahead to the next song or sometimes just pause/stop.
I am now Ethernet cable connected, Oppo95 settings on Ethernet.
I can stream HD YouTube video.
I can stream MP3 files without issue. The ones I've played are shorter 2/3/4 min songs.
I can stream songs through Gizmo to my phone fine.
I have high speed internet without issue, I game online a lot without issue.

What I want to and still can't do is stream FLAC files to my Oppo95.

What went wrong?
Any ideas?
Please assist me.

Update..........

I'm trying out SERVIIO media server.
I just finished listening to the first 15 mins of Supers Ready by Genesis, a 23min long song(FLAC file).
It was via the Ethernet cable.
I just listened to The Musical Box by Genesis, a 10min song(FLAC file).
That I did wirelessly.
No skipping or pausing or stopping!
It looks to me that JRiver MC is failing me.
I would like it to function again as I do like the software and I`ve put the money and the time into it.
PLEASE help me get it on track again.

I'd guess the Oppo is responding too slow for us.

There are a few tests you could try and it may come down to doing a wireshark trace for debugging.

First, to eliminate variables, make sure there is no format conversion happening. Go in to your MC DLNA server settings
Options->Media Network-> add or configure DLNA servers... {choose the server}
Audio->Mode
set to "Original"

Play a flac file. See if it keeps playing or not.
Are you pulling the files FROM the Oppo or pushing TO the Oppo from MC?

If you are pushing, you can try this.
In MC's Playing Now find the Oppo zone, right-click on it and at the bottom of the list you'll see DLNA Controller Options.
Check the one that says "Disable SetNext support"

Try to play a flac file again.

If it still fails, Check the second DLNA Controller option, "Disable Transport Events"

and try playing a flac file again.

If it still fails you'll need to do a wireshark capture.

Hello,
It's been a few days so yesterday I got back to MC19.
Audio mode was set at original and I couldn't find the Oppo zone you mentioned. Is that something I need to set up?
What seemed to get me back on track was I switched under (Media Network) the DNLA Servers PCM 24 bit to PCM 16 bit.
I spent all day listening to FLAC files without any problems:)
So I'm not sure if the 24bit setting is something I brought about, sorry if I did mess up? I'll assume for now it should be set at 16bit?
If I'm not mistaken most CD's are 16bit right?
So when streaming 16bit FLAC files I should be hearing an exact copy of the CD?....Which is what I want to hear.

Thoughts?

Yes, CD's are 16 bit.

The 24 bit problem was probably either an issue with the bandwidth required or it's possible the Oppo can't keep up with 24 bit. Anyway it's a moot point since PCM 16 bit gets you exactly what was on the CD anyway.
