MJ 8.0.211 Beta Available...
« on: February 22, 2002, 12:52:36 pm »

Media Jukebox 8.0.211 beta is available:

ftp://ftp.jriver.com/pub/downloads/music/MediaJukebox8.exe

Please backup your library and your license.

(note: you can use "Help->Check for Updates" if you've installed a previous beta of 8.0 to reduce the download size)

History:
1. Fixed: Corrupt WAV files could hang the WAV plugin during analysis.
2. Fixed: Control bars didn't work properly in windowed mode.
3. Fixed: Control bars would become visible when Media Jukebox didn't have the focus.
4. Fixed: Manually typing paths into the import files dialog didn't work properly.
5. NEW: Quick Play -> Playlists now branches like the tree.  Double-clicks work on groups.
6. Changed: File stats used "Album Artist" instead of "Artist" for overall artist count.
7. Fixed: Right-click on track info could hang Media Jukebox.
8. Fixed: Track info could occasionally show the IE r-click menu.
9. Changed: Display bottom bar lets you left/right even if it shows "n/a".
10. Changed: Added "File Properties" and "Statistics" to Media Library and view schemes in the tree.
11. NEW: Added "gripper" and "up/down" controls to the Playing Now spliiter.
12. Fixed: Renaming UNC paths from file properties would corrupt the filename.
13. Fixed: Tree auto-expanding did not work properly at the root.
14. Fixed: Seeking while paused would dead-lock Media Jukebox.
15. Fixed: The "Conversion Finished" message could be obscured by the conversion dialog.
16. Fixed: Playback display time could be off by as much as the latency selected in Playback -> Options -> Performance.
17. Fixed: Playback display time on seeking could get off by a little.
18. Fixed: Pausing, then seeking to the end of a stream (with no more data coming) would deadlock MJ.
19. Fixed: Added better error reporting to Metamorphis.
20. Changed: Updated Monkey's Audio decoder and encoder to 3.95a1.
21. Changed: Returning from Full-screen mode restores the focus to the right view.
22. Fixed: Several full screen mode focus issues.
23. Fixed: Right-click menu was not working for DVD.
24. Changed: Overrode tab in search box, so it returns the focus to the tree. (better for remote controls)

11. NEW: Added "gripper" and "up/down" controls to the Playing Now spliiter.

Cool, is it also possible to remember the last setting of the split screen so it's easy to go back to the last setting i.s.o. 50/50 ?

Hi - MJ consumed lots of resources after the upgrade so I exited and restarted. When I hit the play button it reported that I don't have a soundcard.

When I exited MJ it crashed on the way out and XP caught this...

JimH - A reboot appears to have resolved the problem it's playing now. I did an update via Check Updates.

However, maybe the crash info I posted will point Nikolay, Matt et. al. in the right direction.

Thanks,

when moving files

if MJ comes up on a file with the same name, it asks you to overwrite?

if you select no, mj will remove the second file from the MJ File list

the only way to recover the file is a re-import

About the 0 bitrate, 0:00 time...

I just can't get this to work. I would remove the tags (mp3), readd the tags. Close MJ, delete all the library files, open MJ, reimport. Every single time there is a different file that has 0 bitrate, 0:00 time. That file was alright in the previous round.

It was like 2 or 3 of them when first using 210, now it always 1 different file that does it and it plays fine in MJ and the time displayed is fine.

These files were originally created by MJ (some build ago) converted by using apl files.

I'm guessing it's something to do with MJ and not my files. Unless there is a bad file somewhere that is causing problems.

- If the Media Library node in the tree is collapsed, and I click on the label (the word media, for instance), the node expands and then automatically retracts - it should just toggle between expanded and contracted.
If I click on the |PLS| sign next to the words Media Library, it works as expected.
** Note - this works the first time you do it, but if you keep clicking, it goes back to the buggy behavior described above **

- Saving an active visualization crashes MJ (although it does save)

- When saving properties to many files at once, the Updating Properties dialog goes blank after the first one (1 of 14).  Can you refresh/update/repaint the window so we have some kind of progress estimate?  When updating 10s or 100s or MP3s, there is no way to know how long it's going to take, whether MJ is still processing, etc.

- I selected two mp3s that happen to have the same tags (although different MP3 files) and rt-click-> Played - MJ crashed.

- It's nice that MJ stops the currently playing file in asked to change its properties, but it would be polite if MJ would automatically resume playing that file at the last-stopped position.

- If you Analyze Replay Gain while listening to music, the sound pops and crackles.

Thanks for the up/down triangles on the split bar, but that was not quite what I had in mind Next Page

The problem is that the split bar is such a small target for the mouse, especially if like me you have got hands like a troll!

Beforehand, you could move the split to top or bottom using a double click on the split bar, you still can, but it is just as difficult to target the up/down toggles. Couldn't you have larger buttons on the same bar that you have left right buttons for Vis/Trackinfo etc..

The scroll bars still don't appear on trackinfo pages...

Have a great weekend folks

Immediately after upgrading to 211 I hit Check for Upgrade and got a 80K Monkeys Audio update recommendation. I skipped it. What's up with this? Is it trying to install the older version over the 3.95b1 this version contains?

The Monkey's Audio update is probably the encoder. (3.95a1)  It's not included in the build, but "Check for Updates" will tell you when there's a newer version available.

When playing audio CDs, MJ does not automatically advance to the next song when the current song is finished.  I have to click on the next track button to hear the next song.  Is there some option that I am missing or something?

Windowed mode visualization (always on top) maximized does not show Vis Studio when opening it from the right click menu. If you use Full Screen mode instead, doing the same shows it.

Right clicking on the visualization window, does the same thing with mini-me right clicks onto itself (posted earlier). Menu clicks on menu item and whatever is behind that menu.

All menus do not stay on the screen (submenu/menu items) when using more than one monitor. Other programs, including explorer, doesn't do this.

Quick Play/Tree view Location just doesn't work. It was showing all directories/not all files in Quick Play (clean library..yadda yadda yadda, then MJ crashed, and now no directories are shown in tree view except the parent directory (from my other posts) and all the files, no directories, are shown in quick play.

Something needs to be done about this. If it just can't work, then I don't think it should be there.
I won't mention Location problems anymore. Just want you guys to have a bug free version and location was #1 on my list, that's all...sorry guys!

(I organize everything by directory structure and some other stuff, that's why I'm always bugging you guys on this.)

No "ARTIST\ALBUM" or other directory structure appears to be working. The finished rip files just go into the root STORING location directory. Appears to do the same for other selections on the drop down menu too. Even the Sample box shows it as no sub-directories.

_Still_ problems with digital playback, now over 5 beta versions.
Digital playback is scratchy, with pops. Analog playback is better.
This is when playing a audio cd.

Just tried two same songs from two different cd's with MJ vs EAC and Window media player. MJ played with pops and scratches, EAC and Windows media player played them clean and perfect.

Some songs actually do play OK in digital playback, but they are a minority.

I change from IDE to ASPI, click OK, click PLAY with a audio cd in the drive, and MJ locks up.

When in Media Library - Artist/Album View it is a big improvement from MJ7 to 8 that you can jump to the position you want by just typing the first letters of the artist for example. But it is a bit annoying that when clicking on any part of the tree (not only on the little plus-sign besides it) this part expands immediately. And before you make it collapse again you can't use this quick way of locating an artist in your library described above. Clicking on some part of the tree is often nessecary in order to get the focus there. So it would make MJ a lot more comfortable to reduce the expand-behaviour of the branches to only the little plus-sign besides them... Or in short: To let MJ react exactly like the Windows File Explorer to typing when the focus is on some part of the folder tree.

Bugs needing to be fixed!

1> Temporary wav files used for ripping CD's aren't being erased.

2> While just playing music, doing nothing else, MJ stops and reports that an error has ocurred in your program --- etc; and then in fact it does crash.

I'm not a computer resourses expert but it looks like there is a memory problem. I haven't seen it in this thread but I have in others that visualizations has a memory leak. After playing about 30 minutes of music, MJ stops responding and pretty much crashes Windows. Well, it locks up anyway. I'm pretty sure that it's Windows that does the final deed but it seems that the longer MJ plays, the harder Rambooster has to work and the longer it takes it to free up memory until finally things just stop responding. A restart (if possible) doesn't really help. A Shut Down and then start again begins the process again.
It may be a Windows problem but suspicion certainly points to MJ as a co-conspirator.

Yup, there definitely seems to be a problem with this one.
To me, anyways, more memory leaks than ever before, and it has crashed while playing, at least 8 times today (yes, I am a masochist). Previously there seemed to be leaks, but it never actually crashed more than once in one setting.

1> Reported several builds ago that MJ says there is No Disk in the drive that is used to burn CD's - When there is. Burning appears to be OK in at least 20 burns. Thought that it might have been overlooked. This has worked previously in 8.0 builds - I just don't remember when.

2> In playback of digital CD made by MJ 8.0, starts buffering at about 3 min into a 5 min song; then the blessed "An error has occurred etc" then the illegal operation notice that the system has crashed. Getting a lot of these -- but I'm just not real confident with my OS.

I can confirm Darwyn's problem. You can't even correct it later because the Directory rule under Rename File from Properties is also broken.

After dragging a playlist into a playlist group all playlists seem to be gone. After restarting MJ (8.211) they are back and the moved playlist is then in the new playlist group as ist should.

Hi

You may remember a problem I had many betas ago...

MJ will not play files, where the filename includes a ";" or a ":"
Here in the uk we call them semi-colon and colon, maybe those names are no
longer politically correct in US where irrigation is so popular!!

Just a wee reminder that it was on your list to fix in MJ 8

It's strange that you guys should be reporting memory leaks and crashing, because I've been reporting this for quite some time now. And then this latest build comes along, and I've let it play all night last night and all day today and it's been solid as steel. And now you guys are reporting memory leaks and crashing... Next Page

Doof,
What kind of machinery do you have? It seems that all users with memory problems this time are Win98 SE.

I seem to be having more problems with memory leaks. Ram Booster turns yellow a lot more than it did before and if you don't catch in time it's a total lockup. Windows is notorious for leaks and this only happens when am playing songs,d\l files and surfing the net. I havn't tried just letting MJ play without doing anything else. By the way that RamBooster is one must have program it works.

I am also seeing that the file naming and directory conventions are not working properly when ripping a CD.  MJ disreguards the the directory rule and puts the newly ripped files in the root directory without creating the Album/Artist directories.

Repeated crashes while playing for extended periods, which is something I haven't seen before. No other programs running, besides usual suspects (ZA, POW/popup stopper Rambooster, Music01).

Receive the following error message:

"MJ caused a general protection fault in module DIBENG.DLL."

MJ says its an incompatible display driver, but correcting for that doesn't solve the problem.
Also note a significant increase in Rambooster activity. Greater memory leaks?

Frequent crashing is new for me in this build. Increased memory leaks, probably last 4-5 builds, but I haven't kept track.

As in earlier versions of MJ V8.211 still says there is a new version of the Monkey's Audio Plugin available everytime I do "check for updates". Even though it downloaded/tried to install the update severall times the next time it is the same.
What's new in this build is the message

--------

Failed to install package.

More Info: Destination File is in use.
C:\ [...] \Temp\Monkey's Audio Encoder\macdll.dll

--------

and the:

I can confirm Darwyn's problem. Going back to ver. 8.0.210, everything is working fine.

Pythius:

Same as my problem - see other thread. Dr. Watson suggests reinstall of MJ. Also, check MS Help:

yawn yawn - DSP - again - it's not worked for me in any of the v8 builds :-

For Virtual Sub and Surround Field -
1. Select the DSP icon and the menu appears
2. Select Virtual Sub or Surround Field and the drop down appears
3. Make a selection from the drop down and the description DOES change to your selection
4. If DSP was off, the action of step 3 WILL TURN IT ON
So far, no problem....

ForEnvoronment, Intelli-Volume and Replay Gain -
1. Select the DSP icon and the menu appears
2. Select Environment, Intelli-Volume or Replay Gain and the drop down appears
3. Make a selection from the drop down and the description DOES'NT change to your selection
4. If DSP was off, the action from Step 3 WILL NOT TURN IT ON

Jim - yawn yawn

Memory Leaks> Well, forget my post above. The night and day of uninterrupted playback seems to be a fluke. I've had MJ crash twice while playing music and displaying vis. Both were in mini-me this time, though.
