After hanging out with us for a while, Matt had to leave for his physical therapy appointments. He did really great today.  To get to our office he has to climb two steep flights of stairs which he did on his own with Bob and Jim and I only serving as spotters.  Bob showed him a tiny Linux box running Media Center.  Matt helped out with a tricky Media Center bug we had been working on, and he updated to the latest source on his computer (4 months worth of changes!!) and created a development build.  And the best part is Jim brought donuts for all :)

It was a fantastic feeling to have Matt with us again!!!

Thanks so much to everyone for all the support for Matt and his family.   I know it's been a huge help for them, and for all of us at JRiver.

Congratulations on this excellent milestone...

Matt helped out with a tricky Media Center bug we had been working on, and he updated to the latest source on his computer (4 months worth of changes!!) and created a development build.

... and this subsequent milestone.

Very nice.  Matt's smile says a lot.

We'll all be using walkers and wearing track suits some day.  It's good to see that Matt, as usual, is just being proactive.

Here's a clip of Matt walking yesterday.  The physical therapist has a grip on his belt just as a precaution.

I knew Matt long enough online to know he was a big guy.  But, even still, I was pretty surprised when I met him in person.

Matt, it is totally understandable if you don't want to answer... But I'm wondering, how did it feel to come back in, even for the short visit today?  I know with accidents like this, that it can take some time for people's interests to come back like they were (and sometimes it never happens, which might not be a terrible thing depending).

I'm sure it was scary and exciting in almost equal parts.  But... Are you looking forward to it?  Anxious to get back to work, or just focusing on everything else for now?  It is absolutely fine either way (and again, no worries if it is private).  I'm just curious...

I've been following along so closely... It is super-exciting to hear from you in person.  And... I don't know.  If you want to share at all, we'll all listen, and not judge (or, at least, I won't).

Matt, welcome back..we'll take any of your visits and expertise we can get!!  :)

I have been staying current with all of Brooke's (and your parents') wonderful Caring Bridge posts.  She and you are very lucky people...I'm sure it's tough to think that sometimes, what with all you are going through, but this is what life is all about...and you guys are embracing the challenges and the wonders of life like no other couple (and family) I've seen in a very long time.  I am so proud to call you an audio buddy.  You are the best!

Something to always remember as this was posted on my FB page.

A professor stood before his philosophy class and had some items in front of him. When the class began, he wordlessly picked up a very large and empty mayonnaise jar and proceeded to fill it with golf balls. He then asked the students if the jar was full. They agreed that it was.

The professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured them into the jar. He shook the jar lightly. The pebbles roll
ed into the open areas between the golf balls. He then asked the students again if the jar was full. They agreed it was.

The professor next picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar. Of course, the sand filled up everything else. He asked once more if the jar was full.. The students responded with a unanimous ‘yes.’

The professor then produced two Beers from under the table and poured the entire contents into the jar effectively filling the empty space between the sand. The students laughed..

‘Now,’ said the professor as the laughter subsided, ‘I want you to recognize that this jar represents your life. The golf balls are the important things—-your family, your children, your health, your friends and your favorite passions—-and if everything else was lost and only they remained, your life would still be full. The pebbles are the other things that matter like your job, your house and your car.. The sand is everything else—-the small stuff.

‘If you put the sand into the jar first,’ he continued, ‘there is no room for the pebbles or the golf balls. The same goes for life.

If you spend all your time and energy on the small stuff you will never have room for the things that are important to you.

Pay attention to the things that are critical to your happiness.

Spend time with your children. Spend time with your parents. Visit with grandparents. Take your spouse out to dinner. Play another 18. There will always be time to clean the house and mow the lawn.

Take care of the golf balls first—-the things that really matter. Set your priorities. The rest is just sand.

One of the students raised her hand and inquired what the Beer represented. The professor smiled and said, ‘I’m glad you asked.’ The Beer just shows you that no matter how full your life may seem, there’s always room for a couple of Beers with a friend.

I dropped Matt off at his house this morning.  He walked, on his own, from the car to the house (about 40 feet) with no assistance.  I walked beside him as a precaution, but he did it pretty well.

I like that, thanks!

Just now I noticed Matt ended his last post that he'd help in a few days  :-X.

A couple of days ago someone bumped an old thread started by Matt, back from 2012 or something. I mistakenly read that it was a new thread by Matt and I started reading it got really excited, like he's doing all that stuff now. Then I realized it was an old thread  :-[.

Matt, you and your family are really heroes for me.
In such a short time, where you are now, and from where you came.
Your story gives me hope and many others. I see now that if I keep fighting and believing, that eventually my diseases will
maybe cure also. I lost hope, but now I have got it back.

Thank you, Matt.

Welcome back, Matt! I've followed all the Caring Bridge posts and even texted you a couple of times. I'm so glad that you've progressed so far! I'm very sorry, I missed your return. I've been distracted in recent weeks and didn't check this thread for a few days, when I normally do so daily. I'm in the UK, since my mum had a stroke a few weeks ago, and a suspected brain tumour was also found. The news of your return was fantastic!

Thanks, JohnT, for the synopsis of what Matt did on his first day. So happy right now. :)

Off topic: Thanks, Jim. The tumour turned out to be a scar from an old stroke that nobody knew she'd had.
