Multiple XML exports
« on: April 11, 2014, 08:48:46 pm »

I have been trying to export from JRiver only my music to a xml file, but I have not been able to figure out how. The reason I would like to do this is for my Home automation setup... I need a XML file that has only my music, another one that has only my movies. Is this possible with JRiver? My collection is on my NAS, and when I try to make a new library it says it can't do it at that location.

Take a look at File/Export.  There are several formats.  It exports whatever is selected.

I see that you can export a playlist or to iTunes... I want to do 2 exports to xml of my library. One would me for my music only, and the other would be for my movies only. Currently when I export to xml it puts everything in the xml file.

Take note of the Output Range > Selection setting in the Export Playlist dialog.

Select the files you want, either via selection or filtering, and export the Selection.

That gives me a mpl file and not a xml file. I want what I get from the library xml file export but I want to be able to only select audio or only select video.

MPL == XML.

What are you generally trying to do?

Currently when I do a library export to XML it exports for my whole collection... What I need is to be able to tell it to only export what was in my Music library, or my Movie library. I only want one or the other at a time, not both. I would like to for example export my music library to music.xml, and export my movie library to movie.xml. Does this make more sense? Am I missing something in your explanation?

Both export types are XML files:

    File > Library > Export to XML
    File > Export Playlist (as type MPL)

The latter allows you to chose the output range (either All or Selection).

So the latter doesn't have to be a playlist... I can just select for example my music folder and it will generate one from the whole tree?

Export Playlist really might better read as Create a Playlist File.

Try it, and look inside the file.
