Help. No audio from DAC zone.
« on: May 23, 2014, 02:00:29 pm »

My setup:
Windows 7 i5-4670k PC (no video or sound card) (connected to Integra 9.8 via HDMI)
Integra 9.8 preamp
D-Sonic 7-channel amp
Arcam rDac (connected to PC via usb and to Integra 9.8 via 2-channel analog interconnects)
Dali Helicon 400 FL & FR
Dali Helicon C200
Dali Euphonia in walls for surrounds
Runco LS3 projector (connected to Integra 9.8 via HDMI)
2 zones set up (1. Movie zone using the Integra 9.8 as the player & 2. Arcam DAC zone using the DAC as the player)

Last week I disconnected the Arcam rDac from my Mac Mini and attached it to the PC. The PC recognized the DAC right away. I set up a new zone in MC for the DAC per the instructions in the wiki. I set the DAC as the player with exclusive access.  However, when I try to play 2 channel music using the DAC zone, I get silence. No sound at all.  I'm not having any problem with HDMI video or 7.1 sound via the movie zone which is set up with the Integra 9.8 as the player.

I've scoured the wiki and the forums and can't figure out the problem.

As additional information. I had a similar problem with the Mac Mini after I installed JRiver MC for Mac on it, only I lost all sound via HDMI on the Mac. Prior to using JRiver on the Mac, I was using Pure Music for 2 channel via the Arcam rDac connected to the Integra via 2-channel analog interconnects and getting 5.1 channel audio and video via HDMI. When using Pure Music I would get 2 channel sound through the Integra when playing 2-channel music, and when viewing movies or videos with 5.1 audio on Hulu or Amazon, I'd get 5.1 surround sound through the HDMI. After installing JRiver on the Mac I lost all audio from the HDMI.

I'm obviously missing something, but can't figure it out.

This might help:
http://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/DAC_Settings

Are you using WASAPI?  If so, there are two ways it can be set.

I set up the DAC zone using that wiki post. And yes, I believe I'm using WASAPI.

Did you try turning Event Style off in WASAPI settings?

Check the Windows mixer.

Change MC's volume control.  Try "Internal".

Can you play anything to it from Windows?

Mute?

I tried changing the volume control to Internal, but that didn't work either.

I tried changing HDMI inputs on the Integra to the Mac Mini input and the Arcam rDac started producing sound, but I lost all HDMI sound.  It seems that JRiver MC can't change the audio device. Once it sets one for exclusive access, it get stuck on that audio device?
