I am trying to view the artists cd by newest year first...

in the artist view then I search for the artist it displays all cd's of the artist by earliest year first. I would like to change this behavior to view by newest cd first...thanks

In the tree on the left, do you not have a "Recent Albums" header?

Oh that works...thanks. I would of never thought to search artists from that view!

but it's not exactly what I was trying to do...once u have searched the Artist in the artist view, it splits the screen from top to bottom. I'm trying to get the bottom view to display newest album on down the line, the default is oldest album to newest.....thanks

The way it works for me is it lists each album by newest to oldest by default.  If not click the header (Name, Album Artist, Date Imported etc.) to change the sequence.  What you would want is to click date imported to "flip" the view oldest to newest and vice versa.

You can customize the view by right-clicking in the upper header area.  Mine is set to albums.
