Various problems
« on: August 30, 2014, 09:47:08 am »

I've been using JRiver for a couple of years and it worked fine.

Then I had to change the user I log into my music server with.  I created the new user and installed JRiver under that user.  That was a few months ago.

Since then I have all kinds of unpredictable behavior.  Lockups, crashing, and the JRemote app gets into a state where nothing plays but it looks like it's playing except the clock keeps jumping backwards and then moves forwards and then jumps back again.

Plus, on startup I frequently get an error message that says something like "JRiver is already running under another account".

I've tried scouring my hard drive for every JRiver related thing I can find and then deleting it and then reinstalling.  But I still get this error frequently which requires me to roboot and bring the JRiver windows service up and down in various states before I get it sorted.

I would love a clean start.  How can I get all instances of JRiver off my PC?

Fully uninstall MC, reboot, and reinstall.  Then go from there.

Antivirus programs are a common cause of problems.  See the link in my signature called "Weird Problems".

Whatever device you're playing to is disappearing.  It could be driver related.

I've done that. But will try it again.

Also not convinced that an uninstall full removes everything. Software uninstalls in general are notorious for leaving baggage. Still, I will try it.  Any tips on where to look to manually delete any baggage left after the uninstall?

Thanks, but I do not run antivirus software.  This is a dedicated windows 8 machine that had a clean bare bones windows 8 pro installation.  This box does nothing but run jriver.  It has nothing installed on it other than jriver.

Here's a question, do i need the jriver windows service running as well as the jriver exe?   I am using jremote to control jriver.  Is the windows service required for jremote?

Media Server is a small footprint version of MC.  Running either one will give you JRemote use.

It isn't a Windows service in the true sense.

And it's probably unrelated to your problem.

It would be worth reading through the "Weird Problems" thread in my signature.  It's likely to be something else causing the problem.

Nothing?

Well it's got Windows 8 pro install obviously.  But this is a machine I built myself and installed a clean window 8 pro copy onto it.  So I don't have any Dell or HP bloatware installed at all.  I have not downloaded or installed any software other than the OS and JRiver.  When I look at the processes running on the box it is all OS or JRiver related.

I'm going to try an full blown uninstall/reinstall again.  Last time I did it I was still using V18 so maybe this will work.

Just remembered I also installed the USB drivers for my Wyred4Sound DAC and one for my MicroMega DAC.  So those have also been installed on the box.

So you have special USB drivers for both DAC's?

Can you test without them?

Yes, I do,have special drivers for both DACs.  I have no uninstalled and reinstalled everything except I only installed the driver for the DAC I'm actually using right now leaving the other DAC driver uninstalled.

No problems so far but it's early.  Will post back my findings.  Thanks for your help.

What I said above now seems accurate:

Quote
Whatever device you're playing to is disappearing.  It could be driver related.

If you have two different USB drivers for two different devices, that might cause a conflict.

You might try uninstalling both drivers.  The Windows USB driver might be fine.

Please post what you find.
