Gizmo, JR Media Server and multiple JR Clients
« on: September 02, 2014, 01:21:01 pm »

Greetings,

I would love to use Gizmo to control music playing on the dining room HTPC when we are sitting on the patio.

I used to do it when library was local to each PC, but things have evolved.

Since I cut the cord and went OTA, JRiver is my one stop shop for all my media needs: TV, movies, audio and photos, and the reason I purpose built a low power server always on.   I have a JR Media Server computer powered on 24/365, and JR clients on HTPCs at each TV in the house.

Normally, I use a Harmony remote to control everything from the TV/HTPC I am currently at.
In order to add Gizmo to the equation, I suspect zones are a part of the solution but I never used them.

Can somebody explain briefly how to set up (in an all JRiver/Windows environment) :
- controller is Gizmo
- renderer is dining room HTPC (JR client) and its associated receiver and speakers
- library and media is on the JRiver Media Server

Everything is on the same subnet.

Cheers !

On the PC:

Turn Media Network on at the server.

Get the Access Key there (from the server)

On the Android:

Install Gizmo

Enter the Access Key to connect to the Server

Enter the location where you want it to play

Thank you Jim.

After having been burned a few times, I do not use Access Keys anymore, I prefer IP:port.
So I do not need to mess with zones ?

Gizmo being connected to the server, it will automagically see all active JR clients, and be able to play there ?

Zones aren't required.

Gizmo will see the servers you connect to and can play on them or on the Android.

If you have reported a problem with the Access Key method, please bump it.  It's a system that works very well.

Enable Media Server on the PC you want to control and simply connect with Gizmo. It doesn't care where the library originally came from, remote or local.

I saw your post saying I didn't understand.

Can you state your request as simply as possible?

Where is the server?

Where do you want to play?

If Media Network is enabled on both, they should show up in Gizmo.

Thank you both !

It was not intuitive that the JR HTPC, client of a JR Media Server for its library, had to be made server for Gizmo to connect to it (the HTPC)  ;D
I will check it out tonight.  I really thought that I had to play with zones...
