force jriver to 'scan' available dlna renderers ?
« on: September 12, 2014, 03:31:12 pm »

Hi,

here's my problem : i' m currently trying out software dlna renderers.
I found this project very promising : https://github.com/PeteManchester/MediaPlayer.

When I start JRiver first and then the app., JRiver finds immediatly the new renderer who appears under 'playing now'.
BUT, if I first start the app. and then JRiver, the renderer does not appear in JRiver... I must wait 6 -7 minutes and the renderer appears under 'playing now'.
What happens at this moment ? I do not know : tells the app. to JRiver 'I'm here', or does JRiver periodically scan the network to find available renderers ?
I don't know what are the spec. of the UPNP protocol and in which way the renderer declares himself to the server , or the contrary, or what .. ? ?

I didn't found any button in JRiver to force the scanning of the network to detect new renderers, but I know that some control point app like 'Kinsky' do have such button ... but maybe have I missed something ?

Sorry for my poor language and thanks for your reply.

When JRiver starts it immediately sends out a search for devices. If your app is running it responds with a "here I am" type of message.
JRiver is always listening for Notifies from the app (or device). Perhaps it's not sending those when it starts?

Well, I think you're right. I tried since my last post another UPNP renderer soft. , and when I start JRiver , this app. is seen by JRiver within seconds ...
I think I will contact the programmers of the app. which  I provided the link - there must be something to fix ..
I suppose the scenario is that the app.is not responding when JRiver is launched, but JRiver finds the app. 6-7 minutes after himself ..

But, there's not great importance at all : I'm just testing out some available solution, all on my Windows7 PC. In real configuration I will use a smartphone or tablet as a control point, so the problem does not remain because the control point will make the 'bridge' ..

Thanks for your reply !
