PORTABLE upgrade 19>20 not working
« on: September 13, 2014, 06:54:50 am »

Hi,

I use MC19 in portable mode, and tried to upgrade it to MC20...

I first upgraded the required "non-portable" (a.k.a. normal) installation, and installed the new license successfully; so no apparent problems there.

However, when I then use Custom > Portable to "upgrade" an existing Portable location, none of the previous MC19 portable settings are picked up; the resulting MC20 Portable "upgrade" resembles a "fresh" Portable install. I can see the old and the new .exe files in the same folder.

Any ideas? Is "Portable" upgrade not possible?   :'(

You can't upgrade a portable install.  It is a new install.

You might try doing a backup and restore on the portables.

Old topic but still the top result when googling upgrading a portable J River install.

I've just upgraded my portable from 20 to 21 and it created a new install. Browsing my USB stick I found the folder: F:\JRiver\Application Data\J River

In here there was a folder called Media Center 20 that had all my config files and library etc. I renamed this to Media Center 21 (after deleting the new 21 folder it had created), reloaded J River 21 and all my setup and configuration, library etc were exactly the same as the previous 20 install.

Saves having to go through the setup process from scratch.

Hope this helps others also upgrading :)

Holy Mackerel !!! THANK YOU. You have restored my faith in humanity.  ::)

I just did the same and all seems to work great!

I was putting off my upgrade, dreading DAYS of A-B comparison, note-taking, screen-capture taking, reconstructionism...

THANKS AGAIN
