Unable to play DSD files from my server with DLNA
« on: September 14, 2014, 08:06:15 am »

Hi,

I'm actually trying MC.  It's a great software and meets most of my expectations.  I only have one problem.  I'm trying to play DSD (.dsf) files from my server through DLNA and those files just don't show up in MC.  Is there an option to allow this?

Thanks.

Welcome to Interact.

You must first import the files.  Tools > Import.

You can set auto import to do this automatically by adding the directory and editing the filetypes you want imported.

Hi Jim,

Thanks for your answer.  I think I haven't been clear on what I'm trying to do.  I'm not trying to use MC as a DLNA server.  All my files reside on a media server (QNAP to be precise) running TwonkyMedia.  I tried what you told me and it worked but now all my flac and mp3 files that were already showing up now show up twice!!

So I restarted from scratch to give you the steps I'm doing.  After I activate DLNA in MC, my Twonky server shows up in the libraries and I get a popup saying the library will be loaded in the background.  I refresh the library page and see the number of files growing up.  I'm expecting that when it has finished, I'll see all mp3, flac and dsf files.  However, I only see the mp3 and flac files.  None of the dsf files show up in the library.  Is there a setting to change that behavior?

Thanks.

You might need to check that Twonky is including the dsf files in its ContentDirectory:Search responses. It takes two to tango.

When MC loads a DLNA library it asks for ALL files in each of Audio, Images and Video using the DLNA search function.
Since you aren't seeing the files I can only assume Twonky isn't showing them as Audio files in the Search function.
The fact that the Oppo can see them isn't relevant to the issue since it doesn't search, it browses.

Good point Bob. It reminds me of a neat trick that Windows Media player does -- if search fails then it falls back to loading the library by repeated browse drill downs.
