Pono and JRiver. Is this a special version of JRiver? or what?
« on: October 18, 2014, 02:29:22 pm »

ive heard a lot of things like "they(pono) apparently use some very old
version of JRiver and it's been at the core of some bad reviews."

so whats the deal?  special version or is it just adding Pono as a service? (like netflix or whatever)

It's not out yet, so it's hard to imagine where it could be reviewed.

Pono just posted some help videos on the beta PonoMusic site and I noted that the application is labled "PonoMusic World 20" in the videos.  So, I'm making the leap that it will be a branded version of the latest, or near latest, version of Media Center 20.  I'm also making the assumption that it will be a customized version/branch, probably music only functionality with some specific hooks for PonoMusic store and the player in addition to the branding.  I also read in another thread that Media Center users will have the same functionality in the full blown version from JRiver, so I remain hopeful the branch releases will stay in sync from a Pono functionality standpoint and I won't have to choose.

I would like to hear from JRiver on this topic though so I can stop speculating.  Since the KS Pono players just started shipping yesterday, I'm guessing we'll know the full answers in the next couple of weeks.

It's based on MC20 but has a smaller set of features.

It's probably better if Pono comments on their plans.
