Hendrik
« on: October 23, 2014, 11:55:09 am »

Just to take a minute to toot our own horn, Hendrik is one of the most knowledge video experts in the world.  His creation of LAV is really amazing.

We offered him a job because of that expertise.   He works with us now.

I'm so thankful he accepted because he's just a genius.

It's more a love/hate thing for me....

Each time I get in the car and load up Gizmo in landscape mode, I am happy, and thank Hendrik for reorganising the screen, and adding the ability to rate a track? Every time I use that, I thank Hendrik...

Then every time I load a column in list view, and think it's empty, only to realise that it's not, all the data is over there on the right in this right-aligned column, I curse him :D
Oh, How I wish there was a setting to apply a global default alignment.

Joking aside, you're right. We end-users feel his input, but from one coder to another, that must be just about the highest accolade. Go Hendrik.

It's a pretty high compliment, coming from Matt.  I agree whole-heartedly.  We're very lucky to have him on board.

He is also a heck of an outdoorsman.

John and Bob gave him high praise at RMAF. However, I think "genius" was used more often when referring to you, Matt.  ;) I was told you have probably over a million lines of code for JRiver in your head!

I think it is an indication of my own job that I read that nice statement from Matt and immediately wondered where the </sarcasm> tag was.

Sigh.  It has been a four-column day.  And yesterday.  And the day before.

There's no sarcasm.  Hendrik really is a genius.  He proves it to us every day.

Thanks to Hendrik for all he contributes.

Hendrik is pretty amazing, an excellent addition to an already excellent team.

The bash lessons are also a nice bonus  ;D : http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=92735.msg638705#msg638705

I just go out to the cinema, and I come back and there is a thread with my name in the topic. Most places you would be suspicious at first, but luckily here at JRiver you can pretty much assume its not a bad thing. ;)
Thanks everyone! Lets hope my recent work makes it to the public soon and works properly, too.

Jim, I think I'm busy next summer with not leaving the safety of my home! ;)

PS:
Matt may not make it sound like it, but I've been working for JRiver since January already. ;)

Hendrik, you should say working with JRiver instead of working for JRiver.  We're a team.  Your vision is as important as anyone else's.

On the upside, at least they did give me beer this evening, so there's that.  ;)

Hendrik, I think you should agitate for free beer.  Except that might make JRiver go under, I suppose.  ;D

I've been following Hendrik's work from the first public builds of LAV and can say his work has transformed video playback for the whole HTPC community as well as for JR.  With Matt back at full speed, It really is a great team and shows what a few geniuses can do - making complexity "simple" so it "just works".
Thanks
Nathan

I spend a few hours every evening, quietly correcting the mistakes the other guys make.  I don't want any credit for it.  It's what a team leader should do.

I also want to add that I am grateful Hendrik is part of the team.
I was very excited when jmone (iirc) told us that he had introduced Nevcairiel to the MC team. Soon after LAV was integrated into MC via RO, and that was a HUGE coup for MC. Then, when Hendrik joined the team, I was extremely happy. It's almost pitiful that a user can feel that way about a software development team! :)

Funny.

This one day I was trying to talk to Matt via PM and he told me I had to hold on because he was busy with his morning ritual.  I asked him what that was, and he just grumbled something about undoing Jim's night mischief.

Never knew what it meant till today.  ;) ;D
