Hi,

I have looked through the wicki help and could not find the answer I need.

I recently used up all my computer free space on music. It is a 2 gig machine, 1.5 of which is now music files. So I bought a NAS that has four bays. I loaded two bays with 4 TB drives so I can store data in RAID 1. I copied all my music files to the NAS. I also connected MC to that folder in the NAS and the music is showing up in MC and can be played. But now I can not figure out how to "disconnect" the computer stored files from MC. Currently both files are showing in MC and both folders can be played from. I am not yet confident enough to just delete the 1.5 gb folder from the computer. I want to "disconnect" that file first and make sure everything is stored correctly and running properly before I delete that folder of music.

I have attached a screen shot of how it looks in MC in case I am not doing an adequate job describing it.

Any ideas of how to "disconnect" from that folder.

The wiki has a topic called Moving Files.  The best way is to use MC to move them.  Library Tools > Rename, Move, Copy.

I just notcied a mistake I made in my initial question:

I actually have a 2 TB machine and a 1.5 TB size folder! 

I looked at those options you mentioned as well as the wicki page. It seems they are suggesting a need to chance every song one at a time?  For 1.5 tb of data that would take a very long time.

I am hoping for a way I can tell MC to look at the folder in my NAS and disregard the file folder in the computer.

Also explore "Find and Replace".  You can use it to change c: to e:, for example.

On the machine where your files began, you can rename the music directory.  In MC, search for that drive and remove files you don't want in your library.

I encourage you to try a few before you do very many.

I tried to change the name of the folder on my computer. But MC finds it under the new name which is just weird.

The find and replace thing is greek to me. I open the window and have no idea what to do with it. I experimented a little but it seems like it changes individual files. I lost a file in the process.

There is one interesting thing I saw which is the  change base directory. But it looks like you have to do that a song at a time. Could take weeks.

I have to think there is a similar way to change the "base path" to just direct MC to the NAS file and no longer be connected to the computer music folder.

For clarification, the files have already been copied and moved to the NAS storage device. I just need a way to have MC not pay attention to the folder of music in the computer. Maybe I will just need to delete the music from the computer folder. I  am trying to avoid that until I am sure everything is working properly.

You could set up a Smartlist that contains the "old" files. Create a new smartlist (right click on Smartlist under Playlists) then add a criteria like filename (path) contains x:  or whatever your old drive designation is. That should give you a list of just the files on the old drive. Once you are sure the list is only the old files, you can then select all the entries and delete them. When deleting you can either have JRiver delete just the library entries or the library entries and the files. I would experiment with a few files to be sure it is doing what you want. Do a backup (File - Library - Backup) first, just in case.
