Cool. First in.

9. Fixed: Several toolbar fixes in Visualization Studio.
Cool. Good to see that resizing to toolbar doesn't crash it any more.

11. Fixed: Automatic cover art retrieval would not function properly
Nice. Thanks.

New one though. The nebula vis that used to run quite smoothly is now jerky. When I right click to bring up the vis menu, it gets smooth again (10fps -> 17fps). It seems to get slower when it has focus. This happens across all vis's.

Bug:

1. Turn Continous playback off and watch what happens when you get to the end of the last track in the Playing Now playlist...MJ loops forever playing the last 4 seconds (it should stop playing).  I have Crossfade Agressive set too.

Hi,
The format converter seems to work well in this version (APE -> MP3). Thanks for the fix.

One problem however, the progress bar for the encoding portion get to around 60% through and then it resets to start a 0% again. When it gets to around 30/40% it tells me that encoding was completed. The output file sounds good to me.

I'm getting this. It's playing at normal speed, but no sound and no activity on the vis. Unfortunately, I don't have a CD audio cable, so I don't know if analogue is working.

Also, still the problem with the MP3 encoder. I've been running MJ for less that 2 weeks, but it has always said my license period has expired. I want to try this before I buy, please.

When watching TV in a external window the window icon is the default Application Icon

Maybe a "TV" icon would be better

Hi,
I'm doing a large number of file conversions and it looks like the library isn't updated until after all the pending conversions are completed. This doesn't sound like a good idea in case of a crash or in the case of the file being converted being in a Playing Now list...

Bugs:

1. Sometimes MJ imports audio CDs under the same Audio CD (x) names...click here to see what I mean.

2. The speaker icon that shows up for the currently playing track does not update in Media Views if you are viewing the Album (example) that is currently playing.  Either 1) the speaker icon should not be showing up in Media View's content lists or 2) it is not updating in Media View.  (Do not be confused...I'm not talking about Playing Now's speaker icon).

Probably a little late but I wish MJ would just skip over a bad file and not lockup. Win Media Player will just skip over the file and play the next one.  This is a real pain. If a file has been moved MJ will crash if it can't find it. Also if there is a bad spot in the file same thing I had that problem in 7.2 and MJ .183 same problem another problem in 180.183 when it gets to the end of some files it locks unless I am doing something wrong. cddb isn't automatic anymore:
put a cd in, click on the devices entry, and see a bunch of "Track #".
Right click and update from cddb and now you've got the real names.

When trying to copy a CD using external encoder (Lame 3.91) it doesn't name the tracks correctly.  Instead of Artist - Name like it used to do, it just calls them (1).mp3 or sometimes just .mp3.  Reinstalled got the same problem.

When using Ogg Vorbis in normal mode the program crashes after the first track is complete.  First it says the file in_ogg.dll is at fault.  Then a second illegal operation box pops up and says mfc42.dll has also caused problems.

The new internal mp3 encoder will not download.  Error = failed to install package.

Can anybody convert anything? It's not working for me at all in this build, no matter what format I try to convert from or to.

I always get "Decoding Error".  Guess I spoke too soon in the last build's thread. It's just since this build though, I swear. Next Page

Bug:

1. The Filename Rule is not followed correctly by MJ when ripping (to MP3/Lame).  It adds extra spaces between name parts (like , , etc).  Also, it adds the word 'track' just prior to the field.  Using Filename Rule ' - - - ' I get ' Nine Inch Nails  -  Pretty Hate Machine  -  03  -  trackDown In It .mp3' when I rip.  Notice all the extra spaces and the word 'track' inserted before 'Down'.

UPDATE: Looks like MJ left this v7.x filename template around as 8.0 does not use <> or trackname (just NAME).  I fixed it here.

Since I've installed build 180 and also 183, i've lost the display of cover art during visualization.
Covert art is correctly displayed in "track info" but no cover is displayed in any visualisation mode?

Well guys, I hate to have to report this to you again but from Windows Explorer, going down to Media Jukebox and clicking on any of the three items in the selection window, Play, Add To Playing Now, and Import; these DO NOT WORK for me.

I'm 99.9% sure that early on in the MJv8 builds, these worked; but, alas, they don't any more.

I'm having the same problem as PhDSM: I can download cover art fine, and the image is also properly shown in the file properties, but it is not shown in the visualizations.

E.g. with the visualization "Spectrum Analyser" -> "Cover Art Spectrum" I just get a blank screen.

Is there anything I could try to make it work ?

Hi,
Back on the converter kick. 2 things...

1) MJ doesn't appear to update the ID3v1 tags in MP3 files when it creates them via a conversion.

2) Per my earlier post about the converter not updating the database until all the files are completed - if you click to exit MJ while the converter is running then MJ exits and converting stops immmediately - no warning. Also, any files already converted are not updated in the database. (Yeah, I had a brain-f&rt and did this half way through converting 200 files.)

Thanks,
John

re version 8.0.183

DSP -
I cannot change the settings for Environment, Intelli-Volume and Replay Gain. Virtual-Sub and Surround are ok. Does anyone else have this problem - I've not seen anyone else reporting it ?

Data Burn -
Is it possible to drag/drop a folder into the queue or is it single files only? If the latter, would it be possible to add the facility to drag a folder and it's relevant structure?

In build 8.0.183 I found that if you change from crossfade(smooth) to agressive, then try it by clicking next, MJ shuts down and disappears. This also happens the other way round. You have to restart. Not sure if this happened before.

Also confirm King Sparta's post on MP3 encoder download, it seems to download OK then says 'Failed to Install package'

Hi,
A few things with Replay Gain Analysis...

1) Lots of pops, clicks and squeaks when playing and doing replay gain analysis at the same time.

2) The pops, clicks and squeaks continue after the analysis has completed and stopped. The only way to stop this is to stop playback and restart it.

3) I'm sure in earlier betas you could manipulate the player while it was doing a batch of replay gain analysis. Not now.

Thanks,
John

Hi,
Selecting the Properties of 2000|PLS| files seems to take longer than ever. It "seemed" to speed up some betas again but it seems slow again.

Also, although playback continued during the "data collection" phase MJ did not switch from one file to another at the end of the song.

Doof-
Are you still having the CD digital playback problems? Are you also getting any "decoder errors"? They could be related. Try an uninstall/reinstall and make sure decoder.ocx gets deleted before the reinstall.
If that's not the issue, have you made any system changes that may have affected the aspi drivers lately? There hasn't been much (if any) change in the CD digital input plugin for version 8.

cjdshaw-
Go to Device Settings and make sure "digital playback" is checked.

I'm getting this. It's playing at normal speed, but no sound and no activity on the vis. Unfortunately, I don't have a CD audio cable, so I don't know if analogue is working.

I'm getting "Decoding Error" when I try to convert. I'll try what you suggest when I get home.

When I upgraded to XP, I found that I could no longer burn CD's in MJ. A user here pointed me towards the wnaspi32.dll available from Nero. I copied that into my System32 folder and CD burning returned. ASPI has been the same ever since.

Later, I discovered the problem with playing Audio CD's in digital mode in MJ 8. This problem was not present in 7.2 and is not present now in WMP8. It's only MJ 8 that has this problem.

Tonight when I get home, I'll uninstall 8, reinstall 7.2 and try listening to audio cd's in digital mode, then I'll move back to 8 and see what happens. And I'll post the results in here.

Longtime bug still exists in 8.0 builds:

1. Using Media File Properties, if you update MJ database-only fields (ie, fields not stored in MP3 file tag data), MJ 'touches' the file's last modification timestamp.  MJ should not waste time updating files that do not change and screwing up folks backup schemes (by updating last modification timestamps unnecessarily).

I am having ripping problems.  Ripping goes ok, but the file naming is broken - the source WAV is named correctly, but the destination MP3s are named:

1st track - correctly named
2nd track - named ".mp3"
3rd and subsequent tracks named (1).mp3, (2).mp3, etc

I am using external encoder (lame.exe), with these parameters: %IN %OUT --r3mix
and an extension of MP3.

So now I am trying to 'rename file from properties' because the ripping process left most of my files called (1).mp3, etc.  The rename function doesn't seem to to be working - the first time I tried it, it aborted (files are in-use), the second and subsequent times, nothing happens when I click 'save'.
