xbmc type video menus
« on: January 17, 2015, 08:21:47 am »

I have used xbmc for several years and are used to their system of menus for finding a video file to play.  I have put my video and .srt files in a directory tree of the following form (partial example only displaying directories and not video files in the directories)

.
├── Animated
│   └── Ice Age Trilogy
├── Comedy-Musical
│   └── West Side Story
│       └── Subs
├── Doc Martin
├── Drama
│   └── The Bible In the Beginning
├── Fantasy
│   ├── Arthur Trilogy
│   ├── Disk World
│   │   ├── Going Postal
│   │   ├── Hogfather
│   │   ├── Soul Music
│   │   └── The Colour of Magic
│   ├── Harry Potter
│   ├── Lord of the Rings
│   └── The Hobbit
├── Mystery
│   └── Millineum Trilogy
└── Science Fiction
    ├── Children of Dune (2003)
    ├── Dune Miniseries
    ├── Firefly
    ├── Indiana Jones
    └── Men in Black Trilogy

Is there a way to set up the video and audio library menus so that I can simply navigate the directory tree to select the video or audio file to play (the .srt files should not be visible).  Only the name of the file would be displayed (no artwork).

Thank you for any suggestions.

If you don't want to change that system, the easiest solution is to go to: Tools → Options → Theater View
Add a new library item in the pane on the left.
On the right, click the Add button to add a category view. Select File Path for this, and point it to your root video directory.

Since XBMC does such a good job on video contents, and is free! I have both MC20 and XBMC (now Kodi) installed.
MC20 is peerless for music.
Kodi is so good for video.
I'll change neither of them.
