MC 20 frequently crashes
« on: February 15, 2015, 01:33:14 pm »

I'm a rather new user of Media Center 20, but I have frequently experienced the application to crash in the in_dsd.dll.
I've seen this behavior in 20.0.0.62, 20.0.0.63 and also in the latest: 20.0.0.70.

The Windows 7 Event log gives me this information while playing or Analyzing DSD files:

I have also seen MC 20 crashes without doing anything, i.e. starting Windows 7 which Autostart MC server and client. After a while MC 20 crashes with this information:

I have attached the Report.Wer file (as a .txt file) from this location: C:\Users\NUC\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\WER\ReportArchive\AppCrash_Media Center 20._a3d66df7e76173628f567b1c44516f92f59dc2b_1298311f

I have had more than 80 of those crashes.

My system:
Mini PC - Intel® NUC Kit D54250WYK
8 GB RAM
120 GB mSATA
Windows 7 Ultimate SP1
Connected to my Pioneer SC-LX87 USB-DAC through USB cabel using WASAPI driver and DSD bitstreaming.
Connected to Synology NAS through Wired LAN, getting access to the audio files.

I have not seen any similar posts on this crashing behavior.
I have uninstalled, re-installed and upgraded multiple times in the hope of getting rid of this issue.
Let me know if I can deliver further information.

Random, unprovoked crashes can sometimes be caused by antivirus programs.

In my signature there is a link to Weird Problems.  It has other possibilities.

Hi Jim

I'm only using Main Library, that is located on the C: drive.
Other libraries have been deleted and DLNA entries hidden.
The Main Library only contain SACD ISO files located on a Synology NAS connected through wired gigabit network.

I booted the Windows 7 machine which automatically started MC 20. I enabled Logging and after a short period with no activity or interaction, MC 20 crashed.
I've attached JRiver Log 2015-02-16 20-17-56.zip to document what have happened.

As suggested, I uninstalled AVG Free and rebooted the machine => No antivirus software is running.
Again after a short while MC 20 crashed again.
I've attached the logs from that crash as JRiver Log 2015-02-16 20-56-59.zip.

I've fixed one crash from your crash logs, I hope that should resolve the issue.
The fix will be in 20.0.72 or newer, please report back if its still happening afterwards, thanks!

I also had crashes on some SACD ISO files. The latest fix did stop the crash but at about the position in the track that made the crash instead of continue playing the track it just skips to the next track. When I had the crashes I thought that my ISO files are corrupted but I extracted the tracks into separate .DSF files and when I played the track that made MC crash it was playing without any problem.
