Can't watch video - LAV Splitter will not download
« on: February 27, 2015, 03:32:01 am »

I have no firewall blocking JRiver - and have turned off antivirus etc.

There should be a way to manually download this file - very annoying

Also getting an "Unable to check for updates" message - tried Latest and Stable channels

Definitely no firewall or AV is active while doing these tests

If you're unable to check for updates, something is wrong with the network access.

Disabling an antivirus program isn't always enough (if it is the problem).  Try uninstalling it and rebooting.

The only software I am having any network issues at all with is JRiver MC 20.
Everything else is working fine. I have also disabled all security software to test.

Is there any software I can run to debug this issue that is unique to MC20?

Also - as I am unable to use this software for video at all, can you please advise a workaround?

Where can I download this splitter manually?

Thanks

Had a bit of time to experiment tonight, and found a way to log via Help/Log

Log is attached for the activity of opening a video file and triggering LAV download.

This log contains the output from the attempt to Update - which also errors out.

Note: I am able to access the link to LAV via my web browser, so no network issues...

This is the URL that its trying to access, just to be sure:
http://www.musicex.com/cgi-bin/redirects/MC/v20/redirect.pl?type=dependency&prodname=Media%20Center&version=20.0.79&dependency_name=lav&dependency_version=51

It simply fails to open it, so something is wrong with your networking setup somehow.

You may need to test this in IE on Windows.  Replicating it in a separate browser (which could have specific conditions on your system to allow it to work, while other network accesses are blocked or broken) isn't a valid test.

Sorry I had forgot to mention that I have uninstalled all security software, anti-virus, anti-malware etc.

Also disabled Windows firewall

I'm a sitting duck - and the update/LAV download function still is not connecting.

The link works manually though when entered into Chrome

How can I install this LAV manually to at least give me video functionality in the interim while we troubleshoot?

Thanks

Are you using 20.0.79?
http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=95888.0

Try powering your whole network down and back up, all the way to the wall.  Something is blocking it.

You could also try changing the browser engine in MC.  The options page has a search window.

Interesting - I just tried the MusicEx manually on IE and got the below:

127.0.0.1 is localhost, which is not in the URL at all (obviously).  I don't know why the connection would have been redirected back to your computer, which shouldn't be running a web server.

Something is borked in your network stack, I'm afraid.  That smells to me like a virus infection, assuming you don't have a very odd network setup.  Do you have Proxy settings enabled somehow in IE?  I'd probably recommend asking for help on Bleeping Computer.

I'd like to stress again that this is not a good sign, and something is wrong on your computer.  It is fairly likely one of the following:

* Malware infection of some kind
* Security suite run amiss
* You were playing with settings you shouldn't have been playing with, and now it is busted
* Something is badly wrong with the setup on your router (or it has been compromised)

So, I wouldn't ignore it.  Still, if you can get it to download the lav file manually in another browser, this is where MC wants to put it:
C:\Users\<USERNAME>\AppData\Roaming\J River\Media Center 20\Plugins\lav

Unzip all of the files to that directory and you should be able to use MC for video.  For now anyway.  Next time there is a LAV update, you'll be busted again.  And you might be showing all of your passwords and web traffic to bad guys, so that too.

Just to let you know I've also had issue with MC updating LAV in the last couple of days on 2 PC's - it is normally very quick but it took many minutes but eventually did.

JimH - yes, was using .79 - and also tried rolling back.

Wow - what a saga, but the problem is now fixed. Yes, something had altered my settings and was not picked up by numerous virus/malware software.
I had to change registry settings and launch IE as an admin to remove proxy settings...that finally fixed MC 20.

If anyone is keen to understand how I was able to fix the issue, look for the "Philip Turner" answer at the link below

http://community.spiceworks.com/topic/446898-can-t-disable-proxy-in-ie10?page=1#entry-3006913

Thanks for all the advice from this forum that led to an answer, not only for this issue with my video player - but also with my PC overall!

It's good to have MC20 quality video back in my life! :)
