format conversion of dsd to 64bit float file
« on: April 12, 2015, 06:11:12 am »

Hello ,

Is there a way , when using format converter , to force output bitdepth of DSD to 64 floating point?
I tried choosing 64 from the conversion options with uncompressed wave as the encoder , and even with external encoder , but the maximum bitdepth accepted was 32.

Thank you.

Any chance to allow it?

I don't know much about DSD (I have no DSD music), but isn't that conversion to 64-bit more or less what JRiver automatically does with DSD when bitstreaming is disabled?

It's probably not floating point, but I've never seen DAC hardware that would accept a floating point input.

Internally we convert everything to 64-bit floating point. We do not allow to write this into a file though, as support for that is pretty uncommon, files would be gigantic, and DACs don't usually accept floating point in any bit depth anyway.

(Sorry for the late response)

This option was previously available in earlier version of MC. The gigantic file can be further processed in other audio editor.
Can disc writer output serve as an identical substitute to converter if used without any processing?
