JRiver 20 very unstable
« on: April 13, 2015, 03:49:56 am »

JRiver 20 plants very often, almost every time. Or it freezes for few minutes. Yet I do not use any plugin, I use stable update channel, and this instability was observed on two different computers that work well elsewhere (W7 32 and 64). Music files are on a Synology NAS, which works very well to. This is starting to annoy me greatly.
Any Idea ?

Oldu that's not normal.

Hard to be specific given the limited info, so I suggest you look through this:
http://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Troubleshooting_Guide
and take it from there.

If a NAS is part of the picture, I'd be keen to know that your network connection is not an issue. Have you tested that side of things with some alternate to give you a sense that your network connection is healthy?

Turn off auto import.  You may have a corrupt file.

Try switching the internal browser engine from "chromium" to "internet explorer".

I'd guess it is this, if it happens with multiple machines.  I agree with Jim.  Turn off Auto-Import and see if the issue disappears.

Try switching the internal browser engine from "chromium" to "internet explorer".

If you manually switched it to Chromium in the past, maybe, but this will generally not lead to crashes or lockups when just playing media.  Besides, Chromium is not the default option, so I wouldn't jump there first.  The Chromium browser plugin has also gotten much better behaved over the last year or so...

I'm skeptical about this, but I suppose worth trying if nothing else works.  It should only be done in isolation, though, or else you aren't doing a proper test.

Try unchecking "play from memory". That solved it for me.

The last I checked, we had tallied about 10 people who had solved their "MC hangs" problem by changing the browser engine... some speculation was that MC was trying to download a Chromium file...

I wouldn't say it's as clear as you believe it is.

They said "MC hangs"

I said " try changing browser engine to internet explorer "

Most already had Internet Explorer set or had no change from setting it.

But - over the past several years - roughly ~10 +/- people said "thanks that fixed it!".

Seems pretty clear.

Clear enough that there was a long discussion at one point about what might be the underlying issue.

I understand that it's clear to you.  This isn't the place to discuss it.
