Playback problems
« on: April 23, 2015, 06:03:41 am »

Hi there.
Ive been running JRiver 19+20 since october on an Samsung I3 laptop with Windows 7. Music is stored on a Buffalo Linkstation 6tb. The only problems have been occasional buffering when playing hi res files.
About five weeks ago I got a new media computer, a ASUS Vivo I5 8gb RAM 128gb SSD with Windows 8. Music has been running smooth until about 2 1/2 weeks ago when it suddenly got quiet. A message saying " Playback could not be started on the output :ASIO using the format 44,1khz 2ch." also something about using hardware supporting said output format. I have a Primare DAC 30. The DAC was sent to Primare for a checkup and got back two days ago.Meanwhile I reinstalled Windows 8, JRiver 20and Drivers for the DAC. After about 30 minutes of playing music it suddenly got quiet again with the same message. If I turn the DAC off and then on Im able to play for a short while before something goes wrong with playback. However, playing from the old Samsung laptop works without a hitch.
I should also mention that JRiver on the new computer is kind of slow and sluggish. For example: when turning the program off it doesnt shut down for a while and if you click again, windows says the program isnt answering. This is both before and after reinstallation.
Whats wrong?

Hi Jonas,

It sounds like your DAC is misbehaving.  What if you try talking to it with DirectSound for a while, just to test?  Options > Audio.

Thanks for input :) I was very close to send the DAC to Primare again. Then the idea of using the USB 2.0 output instead of the USB 3.0 came to me. I switched, and voila, it works like a charm  :). I have no idea why, but i works.

hi
I had the same problem, Primare wrote that the driver are not compatible with USB 3.0. But they noticed it so...
