Hi to all,
I use latest JRiver and my htpc is a Windows 7 64bit with an Nvidia gtx 970 with latest drivers.

I've randomly jriver crashes during the theater view mode.
After some minutes when jriver is not responding an error appears : "Error drawing using Direct3D (Device lost)".

This happens one time Every 30 minutes of use.

I've tried to check and uncheck the option related to screensaver in the theater view option menu of jriver But I continue to have problems.

The problem persists also if I output a 2160p signal.
Changing refresh rate do not resolve the problem.

Any idea?

Thank you all.

I actually got one of these yesterday for the first time (exact same error text).  I thought it was a fluke, but I'll try and get a log if it happens again since other folks are seeing it.

It happened on a Win 7 64-bit  PC with an Nvidia 660Ti with the latest drivers on MC 20.0.106.

Hi. For me is sistematic...
If I move into theater view for 20/30 minutes it will sure happen.

If you explain me how to get the log file I can post it too.

It's all right here: http://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Troubleshooting_Guide

Work your way through the guide and then if you haven't solved the issue there are instructions for logging.

Hi guys,
so I've actived the log and closed JRiver.
I've re-executed JRiver and activate Theater view mode.
After some movements in coverflow view the hangup accours and .... this is the log:

I've been seeing this quite a few times recently too, I thought it was associated with my recent use of MC.exe to switch to theater view but perhaps not

I'm also an nvidia user, GTX660 with latest drivers on .106 build also.

i have had these issues in the past and they were always caused by a graphics driver. Maybe roll back to a different driver and try? I am running a GTX-980  with latest certified drivers and no problem here.

Very stange because I've a GTX 970 and I suppose that the drivers are the same ....
Anyway I can't turn back to old drivers because I use massively MadVR and the last nvidia drivers has better of 5s (!!) the rendering times.
This is very important for me and for all videophile guys that uses madVR.

So I hope that JRiver team can resolve this bug by their side.

HOPE in the Team of JRiver!

This is still an intermittent issue at my house too.  I haven't been able to get a concise log, but has anybody had a look at the log above?

Thanks for the logs.  It's not really showing a hang though.

Would you be willing to turn off Media Network in Options and then grab another log?

You want to click the share button right after you relaunch Media Center.

Thanks.

Are all of you seeing this directly on the server PC using it as the controller/renderer?

I get this sometimes but only when playing to and controlling from a client PC. What happens is that the client hangs -- but it is not a real hang, at least not in the logs at least. Using Teamviewer to see the server PC, I get the same message. This never happens in Standard View, only theater view. And never happens when using the server PC as controller.

It seems on my setup that there is a network bottleneck that is somehow related ?! (note: I know not of what I speak :) ). I have a lot of DSP like upsampling and parametric eq on the client PC running and when removed, this doesn't happen. I can sort of understand why a freeze might happen on the client, but I don't get why the error message is shown on the server PC.  I'm rewiring my network from a slow powerline set up to a gigabyte one. I can't seem to get this to hang when I plug my router direct to the HTPC using CAT 6 cable.

I don't ever run theater view on my server.  I have several clients, and this only seems to happen on one of my clients (the only client with an nvidia card), so that may be related.

It's unrelated to teamviewer or remote control of the server for me (it happens just sitting in theater view on the client PC).

if not clear, thats the same for me. I was only using Teamviewer to look at the server to see what was going on. On the client though I'm using an old ATI graphics card on my client (Radeon HD4800) for info. All drivers up to date - so no connection to NVidia.

Did you try toggling "Hardware Acceleration" under Video settings?

hmm mine has always been on? If you mean to uncheck it I'll give that a go.

I assume you mean the hardware acceleration for decoding option?  I did try toggling that, but it didn't prevent the crash.  Also the crash occurs for me while the machine is sitting idle on the theater view home screen, not during playback.  It's very interrmittent, but I can walk away from the machine and come back after a while to a Direct3d error box that precipitates a CTD.

The machine is configured not to sleep so it's not likely a power state issue.  I'm running the latest NVidia WHQL drivers (the new release on Monday didn't help).

What if, just to test, you picked "Low quality" from Options > General > Video Card > Hardware accelerated graphics?

Thanks.

hmm tried that with Hardware acceleration toggled on in Video option. Can't provoke the error anymore .. I'll leave it running, but that's a big performance boost on my old client at least. Not noticing any real quality differences in the UI at least.

Hi guys,
3D drawing continue to generate errors for me (and I suppose for all Nvidia users).

In the last tests I've activated "hardware accellerate video decoding" option:

and "Low quality" here:

Also with those settings in theater view 3D drawing fails... If you massive move right and left the 3D film covers the error accours in less then 3 minutes.
It's systematic.

So I've disabled the network server and captured another LOG file:
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/261382755/Log2.zip
Hope that this helps to solve this bug.

If you're using Red October HQ, try Red October Standard.

Ok, I'll try but I've to say that my problem do not accour during video playback!
It only happens during 3D COVER FLOW in theater view mode....

I'm still getting this while theaterview sits idle, and never during video playback.  Changing video acceleration settings or Red October settings does not seem to fix it.  I'm only seeing it on NVidia hardware (one system with a 660Ti, and one with a 970GTX), my intel GPU systems are fine.  Nvidia drivers are the latest.

If it is a driver problem, the latest may not be the best.  AVSForum is a good source for information about driver problems.

It may be an MC problem, but I don't think anything has changed recently in the 3D drawing.

If it were a problem with all NVidia hardware, I think we'd see a lot more reports.

I agree it's probably not an NVidia hardware problem as I've had the same hardware for over a year and the problem just started on both systems at the same time about a month back.  So it may well be drivers, or it may be something on the MediaCenter side.

Hopefully Lupin's logs will be helpful in sussing it out.

I'm getting the same issue, has anybody managed to resolve these errors?

I'll do some testing over the weekend, but it normally happens when the PC is idle, with Theatre View loaded (obviously)

I downgraded my NVIDIA driver to 353.62 about two weeks ago and haven't had any errors since then.

The only issue I have is that sometimes when I'm playing a video in MC I suddenly get a green screen, but audio continues OK.  I just stop and start the video again and all works fine.

Richard

Edit: I upgraded to the latest driver this afternoon (355.98) and got a video error in Netflix and the 3D draw error within 30 minutes.

So back to 353.62 for the moment I guess.

Just a quick google will show that for quite a while, and certainly in Windows 10, Nvidia drivers are flaky with this sort of problem showing up everywhere.

Some detailed comment here:

FWIW, I get this occasionally on an Intel HD4000 system under Windows 10. I never had MC installed when on Win 7 so can't say about that.
