Author Topic: Problem: Can't Get Maximized Detached Display on Secondary Monitor  (Read 8598 times)

My Windows 8 setup had a meltdown so I ended up upgrading to Windows 10 a little sooner than planned. I read a lot of old threads and saw a few people that had a similar problem in the past, but no response/solution, so this may or may not be a Windows 10 issue.

On Windows 8, I had things set up so that the detached display would always be maximized on a secondary monitor. The primary purpose being to show visualization (Aeon) on the TVs in the rest of the house, while still being able to control MC on the computer from the other secondary monitor. The primary monitor is used for other apps.

I couldn't get this to work last night. The maximized state does not fill the display (maybe 1/4 or so). The closest I could get was stretching a window to fill most of the screen and hiding the borders, but this config gets forgotten after a reattach/detach.

I can use Display View as a workaround, but then I lose the ability to control MC while showing the detached display. Any ideas?

Mine works ok on Windows 10.

Your desktop is displaying 1:1 with no problem?

I have noticed that the switch display shortcut no longer works in win10:

Yes, the resolution seems fine there. I use this display for theater view, display view, and madVR in overlay mode. It's just the detached window that doesn't seem to maximize properly.

I have been able to stretch the window and hide most of the title bar, but a little still shows so that's not ideal.

Same here. With windows 10 the detached and maximized display doesn't fill my second (third) screen. Everything (including display view) works fine, exactly as you described.

Do we have something in common?
ThinPad T520, nVidia Optimus, Full-HD Resolution, connected via nVidia DisplayPort using a DisplayPort to HDMI adapter.

Mine works ok. Nvidia card via HDMI.

Do you both have DisplayPort?

What are you using to jump MC around? The new shortcut in Win10 has no effect on MC.

I detached the display and then moved it to the second monitor using the mouse. Double click to maximize. All other windows working fine, including MCs main window (Standard View), Display View, and Theater View.

Video card: GTX970
Monitor1: U2412M 1920x1200p60 DVI
Monitor2 (primary): U2412M 1920x1200p60 DVI
Monitor3: TVs 1920x1080p60 HDMI

I had one of the monitors on Displayport when I first got the card, but something was acting funny and I just changed the cable rather than wasting more time on it.

I was also using the mouse to move the detached display, then double-clicking to maximize.

I obviously was wrong with my previous post ;) I took some time to investigate that behavior and found the reason which causes the problem at least for me. Setting the scaling to any value beside 100% causes the detached window to use the wrong full screen size.

Same for you?

I think I have scaling disabled. I'll try to remember to play around when I get home.

I also never enabled scaling but Windows 10 did on two of my three monitors and I didn't notice it on the "big one" at first.

This might be fixed next build.

From the history:
Fixed: The detached display would maximize to the wrong size on mixed DPI multiple monitor configurations.

Next build of MC21? MC20? I haven't upgraded.

Are you talking about the NVidia control panel or the Windows settings?

I believe the Windows ones were at 150% at one point, but now its 100% and the maximized detached window is working okay.

I was talking about windows settings.

It is now fixed for MC21. Hope it'll be fixed in MC20 for you to...

I'm not sure the problem that was fixed in MC21 was ever in MC20.  It was a change made recently to fix a problem in Linux, but it broke support in Windows.

Well, I was using MC20 till yesterday so the bug I reported was in MC20 (as it is for millst). I changed to MC21 after reading that the multi monitor support should be fixed there.
