« on: December 31, 2003, 04:17:06 pm »

Media Center 10.0.27 beta is available.

This is a beta.  Avoid this if problems, changes, or crashes will upset you.  Do NOT try this if you aren't prepared for trouble.

The latest known stable version of 9.1 is here:
http://www.musicex.com/mediacenter/download.html

Please check the license and price thread before you download:
http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?board=3;action=display;threadid=17336

The latest beta of 10 is here:
ftp://ftp.jriver.com/pub/downloads/music/MediaCenter10027.exe

All my Mpeg2 video prob. are back with MC10.

Last used MC 9.1/286

Will this help the speed of recursing through nodes in the ViewItem and Scheme interfaces?

Wow... the builds are nearly coming out faster than I can download them :) (on this piddly little modem connection)
The new 'Customize View' dialog is great step - easier for some to use, though I still find it faster to use rightclick/add column (due to having to click a column up heaps of times... especially if it's at the bottom of the list... oh, and if I just tick the box and close the dialog, it doesn't stay clicked... I would have thought it would have just added it as the last column) - hopefully the 'Add Column' menu will be retained, both the menu item and the dialog come in handy depending on what you want to do, I miss the 'Add Column' for the panes (whilst the 'Edit View' dialog is good, it's not always the fastest way).  Er... [/rant] again :)

I haven't finished downloading MC10.0.27 yet, but I don't think these problems will have changed: (I'll edit this post if they're fixed) Got it now :)
- adding a new list field and trying to edit it still crashes MC... currently you have to create the field, quit and restart to be able to edit it successfully.
- the aw tag info bug is still there... eg. select a song, use the AW tag info to cut and paste the name field into the album field, press enter, then cut and paste it back into the name field... without changing the song selection - some of the changes are not retained.
- I'm finding that changes to the fields made in places other than the AWTagInfo are not reflected in it until you select another song which can lead to some inconsistencies & confusion (I didn't think the 'clean file properties' worked)... eg changes via 'inline editing', 'clean file properties' and plugins (the one I've noticed is KingSparta's 'Chart Finder')... but vice versa works, eg changes in the AW are shown in the list view.
- Very closely related to the previous problem: type something to be cleaned in the artist field (eg 'i_am a tEst').. click on the artist field in the AW tag info, right click the song in the list view and select clean file properities, set some options to clean it, click ok... you should notice that the list view changed, but not the AW tag info, now... if you click onto another song, the artist field will revert back to the original (before cleaning).  [ at least, it does on mine, I hope I'm not the only one :) ] This has changed... the clean still isn't reflected in the AW Tag Info, but the cleaned name stays when you change songs now.

Looking forward to testing the speed changes :) It seems noticebly faster on my computer, woo :)

'Clean file properties' handles [ and ('s great now... nice :)

I'm not sure why I'm getting this problem - or how many versions ago it started...

When I import a PLS or M3U file (for internet radio) it appears to import fine - but I cannot find it in my library (I think I've looked everywhere)..

Am I doing something wrong ?

Thanks,

Mark

Just noticed that the AW Tag Info [ gotta find a shorter way of saying that... AWTI? :)  Nah... too confusing... guess I should just call it Tag Info :) ] ... that the Tag Info :) resizes itself when there's room permitted by the tree... that's excellent :)
It does seem to have a lower limit though... I noticed with a view that has only three columns that it didn't shrink to only three rows high.
And it remembers where you scrolled it too, double woo! :)
'cept when you expand/contract a tree item, I guess since it resizes the tag info window.

I know I write fairly lengthly, mostly critical [ not in a bad way I hope :) ], essays... but I do hugely appreciate MC as it is, and the amount of work you guys put into creating it and updating it... thanks. :)

And closing/re-opening the program :D (though this could have something to do with the AWTIW [aw tag info window :P] not showing up after restarting... :) Maybe MC could remember what AW components I have open?  Also noticed the same thing happens with the tree... it remembers your last position... but any other open tree nodes are collapsed... would this be able to be saved too?)

After playing around with it, Here are my issues...

-. Whenever you navigate from track to track, the Handheld icon in AW flashes.
-. PARTY MODE:  If your in PM and you turn off MC and then turn it back on, PM is not on... ... Would like to see absolutley no changes allowed in Party mode, Not even temperary... Or maybe an option.
-. Is there a function that clears playing now on exit? If not, can this be added?
-. I took a look at Winamp 5, you may want to take a look to see how they have there eq on the player. MC would benefit to that!
-. When scrolling everything blurs for a second.. Kinda annoying.
-. The SEARCH bar, this really is tooo small and in the wrong place.... Any chance that this can be moved back, or at least adjustable on the user side?
-. When you turn on MC, it would be nice if a screen came up asking you what library you wanted...
-. Would be nice if we could load songs into the Database from our handheld, and work like a HD... Play music back through MC while keeping the file on the handheld.
-. When you first select a track, (for the first time) it takes about 10 seconds and then goes to Buffering... This only happens with the first track.
-. I took a look at the burning part of MC and it really is cool, The only thing I would like to see changed is the ability to change the drive and wether it is a Audio or Data cd after the initial choice. I picked the wrong drive and had to start over, then picked the right dive but left it on Audio instead of Data... Took 3 tries, but I made my disk.

WOW this build is a lot faster

Well that's about it....

Have a great new year everyone!

Is it just me or has [Complete Album]=1 changed a bit?  I seem to recall it bought up some 'complete' albums that didn't have names before, so I had added -[Album]="" to my view scheme, but it seems now that [Complete Album]=1 by itself does the same... if so, kudos J River :)

If you edit a view scheme or press f5 to refresh, You go back to Media Library... This is really annoying.

The plugin manager is converting the URL string to lower case when you hit the "go" button, which means that on webservers that are case sensitive it's breaking the link.

Data CD Burning Bugs (still):
1.  Using "Drag Files to Here" to drop files for burning does NOT honor the folder burning scheme...always added to burn list with NO folder names.

2. Using the toolbar icon for Burn CD does not start the AW Burn dialog on the correct pane...you can't choose audio or data CD.

3. No way to rename a data CD volume after clicking 'Next' button in AW burn window....F2 rename on the CD-RW node does not allow for renaming (like it did in MC 9.1 and prior).

When current song is stopped it is (still) not flushed from playback. Picking a new song from somewhere else in the library gives you the last couple of seconds (depends upon crossfade) from previous song.

Man I really gotta thank you... I just bought a JVC MP3 car deck. I made a mp3 cd and was not impressed when I couldn't skip by album.. It made it difficult to say the least. I never thought of the fact that I needed to have the folders until I read this.

Grouping by sort?

When listing artists, the "The" in for instance "The Flower Kings" is not used for sorting - except that when the list is grouped, they appear under the "T".

Is this by design? or a bug?

- MC seems to take a long time to retrieve the list of artists when adding the 'artists' rule to the search field (or clicking on a pre-existing 'artist' rule).... 15 seconds on my machine.  Admittedly that's quite a few artists (around 2400 here), but it still seems like a long time.

I have a  JVC deck too (first one out  30 months ago)...and it still rocks...I use 1-deep folders and manually insert 01, 02, 03... in the folder names (beginning)...so, the deck can skip by single # button press too (like a CD changer)...pretty slick.

Version 10.0.27 seems to be missing the "Media Library" heading in the tree list. "Audio" heading is there but in the past that has come under the "Media Library."

Ver 10.0.24 was OK in this regard and I don't have 25 or 26, so can't say where this omission started.

Is this by design or is it a bug? Or have I missed something?

I'm overjoyed at the delights I find in this masterwor of a program, so again, many thanks to all the staff and to the BOSS.

I noticed in both this and in 10.0.26, the installer seems to press the "Next" button itself in the final dialog (the one where I supposedly get to choose about shortcuts, etc.) without waiting for me.

Using "test" mode...

I've tried burning 16/44, 24/48 and 24/96 WAVs to CD, no joy, getting the following error:

Can't start the write

Funny thing is, APEs seem to burn just fine.

Have a look over in MC's top-right corner, beneath the search bar, you will see 4 icons. Click on any one except the cd and the "audio" tree node should change. The left-most of these four icons is "All" and will bring back your familiar media library tree node. The status of the tree regarding these icons is remembered across MC sessions. If those don't work for you, post back as that would be a bug.

Please help.
When I try to install the Sleep Timer Plug-in I get this error message.

Failed to install package

More info: Failed to unzip file 'C:DOCOUM~...... tc.\Temp\int_sleeptimer.zip
URL: http:''accessories.musicex.com/mediacenter/mc_data/plugins/int_sleeptimer.zip

This was working and I never had a problem until I upgraded to version 10 AND became a registered user.

I was using version .25 of Media Center V10 and had the sleep timer working. Then I tried .26 and that also worked with the sleep timer.

I decided to upgrade when I saw .27 and that is when the installer stopped working.

This is definately a bug.

Please Help.

P.S. I will also post this in the MC10 thread.

One suggestion:

When burning a data cd of mp3's, that the cd respect the folder structure that its copying from.  Right now it just dumps them all in the root directory of the cd, otherwise this functionality is useless to me.

Bug:
1. When building a data CD burnlist, the volume name of the new CD to be burned is not displayed anywhere!!  In the Org tree, "Compact Disc"  is always displayed (where the CD volume name should be).

Update:
This bug is related to having a blank CD loaded or not....when not, you can't see the volume (you are attempting to build).  When loaded (blank CD-R), you can see the name and change it (via F2).

Awhile back in 9.0/9.1 development I complained about MC updating MP3 file last modification timestamps on simple file copy & move operations.  Matt said this is because of the current file tagging/updating engine and that maybe it could be addresed in MC 10.

So, can MC be made smart enough (again) to only update file information (within tags) if the information has changed?  This really messes up incremental backup strategies (causing files to be backed up again that really have not changed since the last backup).  Besides, it just not nice or effecient to update files that really have not changed (file copy/move operations should not physically modify the file and its last modification timestamp!).

BUG?:
Add a bunch of files to Playing Now (smartlist/playlist/...)
Type an artists name into the Playing Now search field to limit the visible files to those from that artist.
Select all visible files in Playing Now and hit delete.

Here's the problem:
The current song stops playing and Playing Now is cleared?!?

Shouldn't it have just removed the files I selected?

Bug:
1. MC crashes everytime time I press the Next button on the initial AW cd burn dialog.  I choose Data CD and press Next and MC crashes...can't get any further (can't add tracks, can't attempt a burn, etc.).  Prior MC 10 testing was on my laptop...I just installed MC 10 over MC 9.1 on my desktop...and can't burn now (using MC...other apps can burn fine).

Update:
MC appears to be crashing because I had a data CD-R (burned previously) in the CD-RW drive.  When I removed the data CD-R, MC quit crashing.  I was viewing the contents of the MP3 CD-R previously (in MC) and, for grins, left it loaded to test some MC 10 burning processes...crashing is not a good process (in this situation).

from MC 10.0.25
Quote
10. Changed: Added 'Import' to CD view's right-click menu.

Nope...no right-click options there for Importing when clicking on a CD drive (under Drives & Devices).

Some functions (File Convert, Analyze Audio) just take way too much priority/focus (IMHO).

Is there any chance these could be made to be a bit less of a resource hog, perhaps even made (holding breath) user adjustable? (ala dbPower's converter)

EDIT:
Why is it that even though I have used 'update tags from library',
if I then copy the file to another folder and then import it into a new library . . .  it no longer shows that it was already analyzed?  It is a real nuisence to have to perform Analyze Audio on them again.

Where did the 'customize toolbar' type command go to? It used to be a right-click on the toolbars and that no longr works.

Hi MC,

The performance has definitely improved and it is much more enjoyable now.

I do notice that I have a track in which the SmartTag (when you place your cursor over the title in the library) in a playlist shows the image which is not belonging to the album.  If I use the file properties or in Now Playing, the image is the right display.  Only the SMARTTAG is showing a wrong image.  This could be due to the new caching feature.

I tried to restart the program, but did not help.  I tried to play the title again, it did not help.
The rest of the titles are showing correctly.

Lise - it's been hidden away hard to find now.

It's in tools/options/tree and view settings/toolbar - how could u miss it? lol.

Noticed that grouping of numeric fields works if the grouping value is set to 1.
It however just groups them by their first character and not by their value.
Could grouping of numbers PLEASE be sorted??
It'd REALLY be a BIG improvement.

Thanks!

On a similar topic... being left-handed I always use shift-delete, ctrl-insert & shift-insert to cut, copy & paste (respectively)... so it's always a surprise when I go to use them in the search field & then it's quite awkward to use the ctrl-c/ctrl-v since I never use them.  It would be great if these keys were supported.

D'oh!  How did I miss that?  After all it is sooooo obvious and intuitive   :-\

Can we please have the Right-Click back for toolbar customization?

OK, now that I found the toolbar customize option, I forgot what I wanted to change   :-\

IF you MUST leave out the right-click for toolbar customization, can you at least make a toolbar customize icon I can place on my toolbar to get to the toolbar customization?

The new customise view feature is excellent - really well thought out.  Thank you.

Would it be possible to allow a random sort to be specified here too?  This would enable me to strip the random sort rule out of my view schemes which would provide a performance advantage.

Bug - I have a lot of playlist groups with several smartlists hanging off each.  The 'Save this view for this location and all sub locations' does not work here making it very time consuming setting up these views.

In Playing Now or in a playlist, sort by name; and then sort by Seq.
Sort by Seq does not return list to orginal order.
