Media Center 12.0.365
« on: November 07, 2007, 09:39:11 am »

This is the latest version of MC 12.0.  Any MC12.0 license will work with it.  Please post bugs here.  Please start a new thread for anything requiring discussion.  Non-bug posts will be deleted or moved.

This latest build (usually safe) of MC12.0 is here:
ftp://ftp.jriver.com/pub/downloads/MC12/MediaCenter120365.exe
NOTE -- this build fixes a FLAC problem, but has combined image/music playback idiosyncracies.

12.0.365 (11/06/07)

1. Changed: Added more shutdown logging.
2. Fixed: Column size changes done by double-clicking a header were not saved.
3. Fixed: Minor glitches in AVI video Closed Captioning support.
4. NEW: When playing images and audio at the same time, images will be played in their own zone.  Stopping playback in the image zone will switch back to the audio zone.
5. Changed: Updated dcraw.exe.
6. Changed: Reworked the import summary dialog so it's easier to read when "in-depth" is checked.
7. Fixed: Flac coverart add when coverart already existed was broken.

12.0.364 (11/05/07)

1. Fixed: Facebook bug where the album choice was not being honored.
2. NEW: Hauppauge WinTV PVR 150 closed captioning support.
3. Fixed: TV recording with Hauppauge WinTV PVR 150 did not honor user's choice of non-hardware-encoder recording profiles.
4. Fixed: Import > Browse... could fail to properly use the folder that was browsed to.
5. Fixed: Image playback "Auto Pan" right-click menu command didn't work. (did not effect 'P' or on screen display methods)
6. Changed: Auto Pan uses faster stretching to provide a smoother experience.
7. Changed: Made Theater View "Auto-scroll with mouse" behavior optional.
8. NEW: Image playback "Auto Pan" applies panning during image transitions, and lengthens transition duration.
9. Fixed: Encoders did not properly identify themselves as Streaming.
10. Changed: Gallery related sendto items moved from Email/Web submenu to Gallery submenu.
11. NEW: Closed Captioning option for avi videos that have Line21 stream in them.

12.0.363 (11/02/07)

1. Fixed: Non-iPod devices always want to resync podcast episodes already on the device (introduced in 356).

12.0.362 (11/1/07)

1. Fixed: iPod showing blacked-out cover art after first syncing with MC and then syncing with iTunes.
2. Fixed: Mouse clicking on DVD menu did not work unless "Expand Image" option was set at 1.33.
3. Changed: Tidied up some DVD code that potential could cause crashes.
4. Fixed: After changing art, sometimes a view refresh was required before the new thumbnail would appear.
5. Fixed: Starting a DVD a second time during a program run could cause a crash with some decoders.
6. NEW: Added expression function ListItem(list, zero-based index, delimiter [optional -- defaults to semi-colon]) to get an item from a delimited list.
7. NEW: Added expression function ListCount(list, delimiter [optional -- defaults to semi-colon]) to get the number of items in a delimited list.
Documentation for expression functions here: http://wiki.jrmediacenter.com/index.php/Media_Center_expression_language
8. Fixed: Unloading some plug-ins could cause a crash. (only applies to last few builds)

1. Fixed: iPod transfer crash caused when the publication date (Date) of an audiobook or podcast is empty or older than 1/1/1970.
2. Changed: Bitrate Monitor filter is now optional for DVD.
3. Fixed: Synching a handheld device when connected to Library Server would not work.
4. Fixed: Facebook album list was too short.
5. Changed: TV copies old settings data to Zone 1 settings when user sets up Zone 1 for the first time.
6. Fixed: Selecting a directory for a gallery may not have worked.

12.0.360 (10/30/07)

1. Fixed: Theater View keyboard navigation could behave strangely. (only applies to build 359)
2. Changed: Decreased (more) the odds that a song that was recently played or skipped will be choosen by radio.
3. Fixed: Theater View was using the list item background instead of the skin-specific scrollbar handle for drawing scrollbars.
4. Fixed: Facebook interface would not allow upload if there wasn't at least one existing album.
5. Fixed: Doing an email of images, and then cancelling the size dialog would cause MC to warn on program shutdown about an unfinished task.
6. NEW: Added right-click option to Podcast Feeds to "Email Podcast Feed...".

That's a good idea...always wondered why it wasn't this way.

I think a Zones left bar would be a good addition.  Something to show what zone a user is on and let them change.  It would just be a nice interface for those who really use zones extensively and want always visible control.

1. Changed: Added more shutdown logging.

Got another post-shutdown crash, on the office PC this time.  MC was kinda acting like a drunk (slow and sluggish), but working, before I closed it. Log-tail:

I think a Zones left bar would be a good addition.  Something to show what zone a user is on and let them change.  It would just be a nice interface for those who really use zones extensively and want always visible control.

You can add a Zones button to your top or bottom toolbars which includes a drop-down selection method...

You can also add the current zone to the main MC display...

I already added the Zone display up above but the button on the bar is a good idea, too.

I'm currently using Ctrl + T, which is a great method for switching, it's just a bit tough reaching the two keys because it's a laptop and somewhat far away from me.  I should use a macro program to reroute a more accessible combination to Ctrl + T.

Good suggestion, though.  I always forget about the bars that items can be added to.

Since this build was added to the regular, non-beta MC12 thread, I thought it might be helpful to people to re-mention here than I can no longer sync Audible files to my iPod with this build.  This started somewhere between 360 and 365.  As the sync progresses, the sync "status" column changes from "Uploading" to "Error" for every one of my Audible files.  I re-initialized my iPod, and now I can't get any of my Audible files to sync/transfer to it anymore.

I created a log, but it wasn't clear which lines were pertinent to this, so I just sent the whole thing to Rick if anyone at JR needs more info on this.

Please let me know if there is anything else I can do to help with this.

UPDATE:  To any Audible/iPod users following this, this issue has been fixed (I haven't tested it yet, but it's in the newest beta change log.)  Apparently this issue did start with 365, so if you need to sync Audible files to an iPod, you'll need to use the previous build until the next one is posted here.

Thanks,

Larry

I'm sure this has already been picked up based on Matt's comment that the system has undergone 'a lot of tuning' with build 366, but since I can't see it anywhere:

With the new Image Zone system, if I am playing music, start playing pictures, then Ctrl-T back to the music zone, and try to play pictures again (without first having stopped them in the image zone) the music stops, and I get an error: 'The current player zone cannot be removed.'  This is impossible to get rid of without exiting MC as it reappears continuously upon pressing OK.

12.0.365 (11/06/07)

4. Fixed: Import > Browse... could fail to properly use the folder that was browsed to.

This works as expected now. Thanks

Cover art does not display in "Playing Now" on client machine.
It does appear just about everywhere else though, microThumbs, pop-ups and tiles in the content pane.
Displays correctly on the server.
All Ape files w/ cover art stored in the same folder as file [Artist] - [Album].jpg

Is this related to:

Importing with "Build Thumbnails" checked to be performed causes MC to crash (I aassume due to a bad file or cover art image.  Unchecking the "Build Thumails" option alleviates this issue.

***Correction - now it is crashing whether or not the Thumbs are built  ?

I think I've isolated the above problem:

0039234: 588: Import: GetMissingAndUpdateFiles: Missing: U:\Videos\Concerts-MusicVids\Pink Floyd - ShineOnYouCrazyDiamond\VTS_02_PGC_03_1.dvd
0039250: 588: Import: GetMissingAndUpdateFiles: Finish (7328 ms)

0039250: 588: Import: FixBrokenLinks: Finish (0 ms)
0039250: 588: Import: RemoveBrokenLinks: Start
0039250: 588: Import: RemoveBrokenLinks: Removing: U:\Videos\Concerts-MusicVids\Pink Floyd - ShineOnYouCrazyDiamond\VTS_02_PGC_03_1.dvd

Once this file was removed from the library and it's folder Excluded from Import the problem was alleiviated. The file does play properly using other software.

Once the folder is again included in the Import the file does get imported into the library. However if you Right-Click the file in MC and select "Locate On Disc (External)" MC states tha the file does not exist.

Running Import again with this file in the Library causes the same crashing as it did before.

It continues to crash upon import even after excluding all the Video and Image files.

*That same file still shows even after I selected ALL my videos and deleted them from my Library as well as excluding the folder they are in.

**Can MC somehow be made to skip a bad file and report it?

*** BTW - this file has existed in my library in previous builds and never caused a crash until this build.

hi guys. I'm a registered user of media center. i use this program since the 8 version. my name is mihai and I'm from romania. i don't speak very well English, but i'll try to handle with this in this topic.  :(. First I want to say that I'm a big, big fan of this program. i consider this is the best media player in the world!!!! it has a lot of features that i really need, features that's help me a lot in management of my music. my library has over 45.000 of unique songs, gracefully to duplicate finder.  i read every time the topics posted here and the news from the every update of Media Center.
Unfortunately not every update brings corrections for this loved software. Not only for me. For all of you that help to keep this working fine.
Now I want to notify few things that's make me sad.
1. In build 12.0.329-358 it was exist a feature who shown the complete screen tip of a column if this was too short. i repeat, sorry for my bad English. Now It's still missing since the next updates 12. Look the print screen to understand what i try to say:

http://img57.imageshack.us/my.php?image=screenrn5.jpg

Now on actual builds it looks like this, like in old times:

http://img231.imageshack.us/my.php?image=screen2ca8.jpg

I just want this feature back.

Also, when i make an update my settings for smart lists disappears [top hits, recently played, recently imported etc.] [they are back to default], and i have every time to fix them.
and more,more...
does anyone speak Romanian here? It will be more easier fore me to explain all the bugs.....

Also
Audio -- Top Hits -- 100 most played
    [Media Type]=[audio] ~sort=[number plays]-d ~n=100

does not reflect the real situation
i have to remove the number of items [ex. 20, 50 100] because if i keep this not all of the track played appears in this chart. look what i have to do, to get a real situation of all the most played in my computer look what settings i've done:

http://img221.imageshack.us/my.php?image=screen3ii8.jpg

the settings for my current view saves get lost after updating. i wish to save THIS SETTINGS IN A FILE OR SOMETHING TO GET BACK AFTER AN UPDATE OR INSTALL.
Thanks.

I have more to tell, but for now i think it' enough!!

I'm waiting for a competent answer and solutions.

Hi,

I had to reinstall the Lame encoder plugin with this build, was that intentional?

There appears to be a bug with the Smartlist Editor. Once i have created a smartlist it appears to work fine, however, when i add or remove a field a random collection of mp3 files appear instead of the 25 most played songs that the smart list had originally created.

It's done this with the past two builds, but when i uninstalled the latest build and installed build 12.0.338 the smartlist works fine.

Thanks Steven F

I reported this in 338, and I’m still getting the same behavior.  When syncing Audible titles to my 5g iPod, the chapters are not getting synced.  They do get synced from iTunes.  Here’s what I’ve noticed:

When transferred from iTunes, AA files retain their chapters and cover art.
When syncing to MC, AA files already on the iPod loose their chapters and cover art
Files need to be transferred again from iTunes to restore the chapters

Also, is there any way to automatically remove podcasts that have been listened to?  For example, if I have 3 episodes on my iPod, and I listen to the first one, when I sync with MC, it will remove that one from the iPod.

Regarding my crashing report above:

Removing the bad file from the library and excluding the folder it is in from Import alone did not prevent further crashing.

Reverting to 12.0.358 and doing the same as above did fix the problem, making it appear this is an issue within the 12.0.365 build. Also adding to this is the fact that this same "bad file" has been in my library prior to 12.0.358 and never caused a problem until 12.0.365, and it plays on other software.

note - my first attempt to step back to an earlier build was catastrophic:
Upon trying to install 12.0.358 I got an error message that JRsomething was in use and preventing an install. I could see it in Task Manager but was unable to force this to close.

Rebooting so as to permit a reinstall of an earlier build resulted in a B.S.O.D., inability to boot even into safe more, and a resultant reinstall of windows   >:(

After reinstalling windows and MC 12.0.365 the problem returned. Tis time however I was able to reinstall 12.0.358 and remedy the problem.

9. Fixed: Encoders did not properly identify themselves as Streaming.
OGG is back in the Library Server Conversion. Thanks!

BUG in release 365:

When ripping CD's and having activated "store cover art also in file's tags" - MC12 does not seem to do this. Only stores file in folder.

Its reproducable for me.  Anyone else?

7. Fixed: Flac coverart add when coverart already existed was broken.

Excellent job guys, works wonderfully now.
Even applying covers to several albums while MC is still tagging covers on other files does not cause a problem.

Thank you!

I am getting consistent crashes with this build.  Almost never happened before.

Whenever I run "Library->Run Auto-Import now", it analyzes, adds files, updates broken links from things I've moved/removed, then crashes right before it pops up the summary dialog.

This is a known issue, and will be fixed with the next public build.  Sorry for the problem.
