Stop incomplete downloads from displaying in library>?
« on: September 21, 2015, 02:35:56 am »

if I am downloading via HDTRACKS (or another online service), is there a way to only show *complete* files?  I dont want partially downloaded items to show in the library

The best way to handle web content (IMO of course) is to have an incoming folder that is either not watched or watched with different rules than normal (I.e only in a special view scheme).  This way you can deal with incomplete, or the often terrible metadata that comes with even the best downloads.

I found setting the incoming folder to NOT import any ancillary files (JPEG, PDF, etc) makes it much easier to use the RMC tool later as well

How does that work?  "Watched with different rules" ?  Oh wait, I think I might get it.  Is this like Glynor's method where you apply a special tag or keyword to some incoming files, then filter *all* of your views so they won't show those files?  Then in a "review view", you see those files only, work with them, tag them, etc, and finally "approve" them to be in the normal views by removing the special tag?

I have a different auto import issue.  If I rip video into a watched folder it hangs MC up pretty solid because it's trying to analyze video files that are incomplete.  The solution in my case was simply to rip to a temporary folder and move the files over when they are done ripping.  That would also work for the OP, but it does require a manual process.

On the other hand, some download clients have a setting to move files once the download completes.  So you could download to a temp folder, then have your client move it to a watched folder.

Yah pretty much like that.  My incoming folder has *nothing* done to it (no tagging, no analyzing, etc.) and *only* looks for audio / video with no ancillaries.  Then I made a view that *only* looks at that folder.  This way nothing changes my obsessive tagging rules, and when I'm done with files I use RMC into their permanent locations, where the import rules will do their thing (mostly analyze in my case)

It does require some manual intervention but I can't bring myself to let anything tooautomatic happen to my files  :P

I removed some discussion above.  We need to keep it legal.
